USB Ports won't show up as high-speed 2.0

To be honest, I'm not sure when the problem started. I got my machine rebuilt with a new mobo, and I don't remember whether or not I ever put in a USB pen drive and had it work as USB 2.0. I find it difficult to believe I didn't, but...anyway. The board is an MSI K8N Neo4-F, that's nForce4 based...

    What the heck is wrong?!?!

Monitor is fine (tried a known good one) and I can't get in to the boot options. I don't think this is a software problem. I tested a new power supply last night, a 450W Antec with all the right plugs, and it still didn't help. I'm getting really desperate here.

    What the heck is wrong?!?!

Ok, so I had an A8V-E Deluxe (that's K8T890) that was working fine for several months. Recently, it stopped booting. It would go though BIOS POST, andall the way up to starting windows -- but it would fail around the time the resolution changes and windows boots. I switched to a new motherboard...

I think my Barracuda may be fried...help!

On Friday, I had a fairly severe hard drive crash involving corruption of files and such, but apparently no hard damage, just soft failure. Afterwards, I had a lot of frustration trying to get the system set up -- a brand new install of WinXP would implode for no apparent reason. So, after...

AMD X2 REAL release 7th June, Pentium D 22 June

Ah, so unfortunate. If only the world knew, eh?

Help me build PC for recent Grad!

My suggestion is to go for the socket 939 3200+ Winchester, an Asus A8V-E Deluxe or the similar DFI LanParty with PCI express, and a GeForce 6600 or 6600GT. The socket 939 is more expensive than 754, but it provides a solid upgrade path; you'll be able to drop in a cheap dual core processor a...

    Overclocking a GF 6600

I was monitoring the temps of my GF 6600 while running it at a known unstable value of 450 MHz. The last read out from RivaTuner is 73 deg C, before the card fails, the screen goes blank, and the system freezes. So, first question, is this a typical temperature for a GPU to fail, and is it...

Need a CHEAP decent quality case

CompUSA carries a nice looking black+silver case that comes with a 400W PSU. The PSU is quite solid, despite being unbranded. Total cost: $50.

    Replacing chipset fan

The fan on this board has recently gotten messed up and started producing a lot of grinding noises from time to time, and generally just being loud. So I bought a CoolerMaster PAC-P01 chipset cooler. It's just a passive heatsink, no fan. I'm not worried about the cooling ability, since I've...

    delete

The motherboard is normally supposed to ground itself to the case. You've turned your entire mobo into a floating circuit there. You may not see effects, but I can guarantee you the system does not appreciate it.

Best thermal paste for 3200+ Winchester?

If it's a Winchester, it honestly doesn't matter, especially if you're using Cool n Quiet. My CPU when idle generates practically no heat; the heat sink isn't even warm to the touch, and that's stock cooling/grease. Even the northbridge is hotter. Athlon64s are cool runners, don't worry...

    Athlon Dual Core question

I believe the dual cores will have a single memory controller that can do dual channel. IIRC the memory controller is actually connected to a crossbar latch. On a single core this sits around doing nothing since all of the data is going the same way, but on the dual cores that crossbar latch...
