I'm sort of in a similar situation to you for a new build. For now I'm sticking with a single 4870. If the performance improvements of the 4870x2 are really drastic, then I'll buy that 5-6months down the line when the next iteration card comes out and the 4870x2 gets pushed into the $350 range.

i'm pretty sure the dell E248WFP is a 6bit panel. i have a 22" version of this and it's okay but nothing special. the viewing angle isn't great and the colours don't seem to be vibrant either.
i would say get a BenQ FP241W if you have the money.
