My hard drive started making a high pitched noise a few days ago. I used Cinema Craft Encoder for 7 hours straight the day prior and used it for about an hour that day when the noise started. It was really loud at that time. Now it's not's as loud but I can barely hear it and it's in my ears...

I have a problem with my sff system. The power supply starts up and then shuts off after 3 seconds. This is a brand new system. New hard drive, memory, dvd drive, and sff barebone. I find it only stays on when the cpu is taken out. It does power everything in the system cuz my dvd burner...

I don't know it offhand. I'll run DvdShrink and post it here. I think my cpu is too hot though. Most of the time my pc is on the cpu usage is 5% or less and the cpu temp is a little above 50 degrees Celsius. At 100% load for a long stretch is must get pretty hot.

Sometimes when I turn my lcd on I get a black vertical line down the middle of the screen. I used this lcd with a different pc and it never happened until I put together my current pc. I got a new video card and it still happens. I also get blue screens when I do long encoding with Dvd...

so forgot about the nec 3540. it's a mediocre drive. people give great comments on newegg cuz they make a dvd and it works afterwards so they're happy. but if it has too many errors that same dvd will degrade and stop working

oh yeah, the LG 4163 burner is the best. I do quality scans with Nero Cd-Dvd Speed and that burner rocks with Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd+r which also happens to be Sony Dvd+r's you see in stores all the time.. It can burn it at 12X without extra errors. I still get near perfect quality scores of 98...

I would get the Thermaltake Kandalf. It's pricey but it rocks. Quiet fans and good airflow.

I don't think I'll ever need more than a gig of ram. I've got software which can control speed of optical drives. So I can use the drives I trust. I trust my Lg burner and Liteon dvd-rom. I don't have the pc yet. I'm still unsure of the motherboard too.

I guess I'll go with the passive cooling regular board. Don't know about that heatpipe leading the heatsink right in front of where my cpu cooler will be. Might be too much hot air in one spot of my case.

i don't have the cash for that. i might just leave the three case fans going which should be pretty quiet. they are all rated at top speed to be 19 and 17 db. That's barely audible from a few feet away, right?
