I was just thinking about the thousands of laws that exist in the USA. How is it tenable to have that many? Are that many really necessary? Maybe its time to go through and simplify. What are you thoughts? How many laws should there be?
I recall seeing 9 ns end to end thrown around. Take it with a grain of salt.
It would have to be one drive per cable with only having 10W though. Cut down on one cable per drive, but if they could pull 40W per cable then I could see this really taking off.
I agree, Thunderbolt will exist with USB. I could see Apple moving to Thunderbolt only down the line and having USB adapters for it, but I think for the next 3-5 years, Thunderbolt adn USB will complement each other, Thunderbolt for high performance and USB for compatibility. Getting rid of...
Why don't we go 0 to 360 and 0 to 180? It seems like it would make more sense. That way N0,W0 would be at one of the poles instead of some random spot off the coast of Africa. It would also simplify the the N vs S and E vs W thing in coordinates. You could even normalize so it would be between 0...
Can the current class distribution maintain the way it is without there being consecutively larger populations in each lower bracket?
@Londo_Jowo, is that a net salary increase or a nominal one? If it's nominal then your purchasing power really wouldn't have changed due to inflation and in...
Classes have been apart of culture for thousands of years. For most of that time, you could envision classes as a pyramid. If you think of it interms of mechanical stability, a pyramid is a stable structure because the base is wide. In modern times, the classes are more like a diamond where...
I am not a fan of the patriot act and I'm not a fan of this. The United States is becoming increasing Orwellian. Things like warrantless wiretapping, Guantanamo Bay, TSA, etc are slow depriving us of our privacy and our rights.
A lot of our policies were predicated on us continuing to have lots of children. Both of my parents had 8 brothers and sisters. I don't know anyone my age with more than 3 siblings in the family. Over a 50% reduction in tax base in 2-3 generations. All these policies were banking on a large...
In a perfect word it would be by ability. I take issue with tenure and unions for that fact. Should some industries be regulated when safety is at stake? Yes, they should and that is why OSHA exists. Other than that why not let your pay reflect your ability. I'm all for merit based everything...
If you're talking about general electric production then yes, petrols are not used in the US for electric production (Coal, Nuclear, Natural Gas are), but almost all of our transportation, a lot of industrial machinery, and residential heating uses petrols. This thread is about gasoline prices...
I think this precisely the reason why Green Energy solutions are being looked at. If we have a resource that never runs out (solar, wind, tidal, geothermal) we will never be at the whim of the oil producing countries. I think it would be prudent to responsibly tap into our domestic fossil fuel...
I think America should look after it's own interests. NAFTA has led to more issues than it ever solved. Sometimes the government needs the ability to regulate international trade to maintain a self sufficient, stable state.
I think the Post Office is something that could probably go in this day and age or at the least be reduced significantly. Fedex, UPS, and DHS provide cheaper rates and more reliable delivery. Most documentation for the government should be converted to electronic forms and records and email is...
I believe criminals will have weapons regardless of the laws. In my part of the country, it is quite common to own many shotguns and rifles for hunting purposes. I think background checks prior to purchase are not a bad idea, but the idea of licensure for weapons seems silly because criminals...
I was unaware of the circumstances of Mr. Gingrich's previous marriages. Certainly, that doesn't speak well for his sense of ethics. I don't particularly agree with Gingrich on most topics, but I won't discount hearing him out based on that alone. Good ideas can come from crazy places.
