Having an ASUS employee writing to one non-US user on a US forum, is hardly acknowledging the problem. And several people seem to have this problem, not just me.
I'm in Denmark, Europe, so that's probably easier said than done. Nice service for American customers, though.

I tried with a newer PSU with a 24-pin connector. Still no sound. I also tried connecting to a front panel connector in another case. The Realtek control panel registered that it was connected, but still no sound from either back panel or front panel.

In my case, the driver manager recognizes the speakers just fine. It pops up a message when they're connected, and it shows the lime green minijack in the UI as non-foggy (as you call it), and connected. But no sound.
Update: I tried the TOSLINK (optical) output today. It works fine. I haven't tried HDMI yet, but I suspect it works fine. The analog still doesn't work :(

This is so frustrating! I'm beginning to think I'll never get sound out of this board. I can't believe this isn't all over the Asus forum.
