Maybe I should have reworded my topic title! I'm not fighting Vista. I love Vista. It's a great OS.
I simply asked if anyone recently had bought any brand of laptop (make and model and any price) that they have changed out to XP on. This was my *only* question. I can live with a "no"...
I have 2 programs that the manufacturer states *will not* run under Vista. These 2 programs are part of the reason I bought a laptop in the first place. I don't want to have to spend the money or time to find replacements.
Also, I have the original installation disks for XP meaning I could...
So, has anyone had 100% success in going back to XP on this computer. I'm thinking of returning mine, only because I have several programs that must run under XP. What to do?
I got a great deal on a Compaq laptop at an early morning sale at Walmart last Saturday. A very basic laptop but my needs are very basic as well. I just don't need much power and wanted to get out as cheap as possible.
My plan was to get it home, format the hd and install XP. First of all HP...
Well, this is what I thought also, but I see the forms filled with comments on SATA hd failures most attributing them to heat. IF the hd runs at 7200 rpm I wouldn't think it would matter which interface.
Another factor would surely be the amount of components in the case and the cooling of...
I'm assuming you are referring to the fan on the rear of the case?
thanks for the quick replys. I suspect most folks run no fans but I wonder if this shortens the life of the hd. I can't remember ever having an IDE drive die. maybe I'm just lucky.
Seems like there are problems with a...
I need to replace my PATA IDE hd and could do perfectly well with another one as I don't really need any faster transfer. But might as well upgrade to state of the art SATA.
Question is I read these drives run pretty warm. Do I have to run some type of fan on the drive??
I'm considering...
Thanks, that makes sense. I had read the specs but did not understand the phrase "under OS by turbocache" as opposed to locking in 512mb somewhere in the hardware setup. I would like to force it into 512mb of dedicated video memory but there is probably no advantage to that.
I'm still not...
Anyone with a Biostar TF 7025-m2 know how to increase the onboard video's shared memory from 256mb to 512mb.
I can't find anywhere in the bios a place to make an adjustment.
thanks,
I don't OC and have no need for high end graphics.
I just put together a system using Biostar TF7025-M2, 2gb Crucial Ballistic ddr2 800, AMD X2 3800 and it runs perfect so far. I do no gaming but use for business apps and web surfing. This is my 2nd biostar, first was m7nmg. They both have...

<Gee ...just like my post said>
I appreciate your suggestion but simply "listing all modes" was where I had started.
The key was to first uncheck the command to assure all adapter card modes were listed as opposed to...
I've read good things about the Samsung Spinpoints but I really couldn't give you advice about it vs. other brands. Check the various forms and the reviews at Newegg.
I had a 160g ide hd and a 80g ide in my computer. I didn't need that much space so I bought an enclosure and mounted the 80g...
Yes you can do it. Files will remain readable off of the second drive.
For only 20 or 30 dollars more you can buy a great external enclosure for that second hd and make it portable. If security is any issue this might be the best route.
