8 injured as arresting wire snaps

Been awhile since I've done an in depth look at aerodynamics, so correct me if I'm wrong. The benefit of ground effect is greater lift at a given AoA, which if an aircraft has limited ability to pitch up on the deck, is useful (prevent tail dragging, and potential for better forward...

8 injured as arresting wire snaps

Discovery channel actually caught one snapping while filming a few years back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o67iGu3E8Gc E-2's don't have ejection seats, so it would have been a scramble getting out of the aircraft if it actually went into the water.

I think I might have you beat in that respect.

    [MMO] World of Tanks

Agree with everything especially #1 and 2, though I would like to amplify #4. If you are skilled at TD mode (aka not sniper mode), and you know the scout is coming (ample warning to turn/get around a corner), I go for the kill so that I can put more rounds out later once I kill the scout. I also...

Malaysian airlines has lost a 777

36,000ft*3 (glide ratio)= 108,000 ft 108,000/6076 (ft/nm)=17.7nm, which is not 100 miles. Most aircraft are in the 7-10:1 glide ratio iirc. Just gotta remember to convert ft to nm. If your plane happens to be 6:1, makes the calculation easy since its basically 1000 ft of altitude equal 1nm...

    [MMO] World of Tanks

Disagree, at least when it comes to solo pubs. Clan matches are a different beast and I would agree with you there. I would agree, my m40/43 pulls in a 59% win ratio with 750 battles, played under the same name, >99% solo pubs. Been following this thread for a bit, since I'm a bit of a...

Anyone else keep track of their mileage?

Yep. 5.4L '06 F-150. Supercrew with 5.5' bed, 26 gallon tank. Keep track of fuel and other related expenses more for fun than actual usefulness. 2009: 17.1 MPG average, $2.49/gal 2010: 15.5 MPG average, $2.64/gal 2011: 15.6 MPG average, $3.40/gal 2012: 14.6 MPG average, $3.42/gal Total...

Can the space shuttle take off from a runway?

Windtunnel tests show otherwise. Not the best photo, but it gets the point across. Photo Link. Also Youtube Link. As far as wings curved, to prevent turbulence is one of the reasons. Keeping the flow laminar vice turbulent is key to achieving a high L/D ratio, essentially giving good fuel...

    F-150 bucked or split bench?

I got a 06 F-150 Supercrew, XLT Package with the 40/20/40 front seats. I've used the front seat a few times that I needed to carry 6 people. There's been other times that I've had the backseat filled with stuff, and was still able to drive with 3 people in the front seat. It was nice feature to...
