    Spector CNE - network monitoring....

    Don't you love it? Without the Internet they say they can't get their work down. But once they have it... none of their work gets done! Anyways, my company ran a pilot of CNE for two weeks in our programming division. We found it much more lackluster that one would expect. Essentially the...

    Best way to connect 2 buildings about 2 miles away from each other

    I would recommend a point-to-point microwave connection. Essentially you're going to need two microwave dishes pointed at eachother. Obiviously this is dependent on a line-of-site issue. We've had great success with this at my company, in which this connection is used to connect to a remote...

    Splitting a C++ String

    Doh! Everyone may swear at their compilers... but it woulda been nice to have one then. Glad you got it working. I used to hate substring, but it's a nice rub on the belly when it comes to string morphing. Happy coding!

    Splitting a C++ String

    Well... this is how I'd edit your code. All I do is find the whitespace character, and then use substrings to print out what's before and after it. Should work. I'm at work right now and don't have .NET handy... so lemme know if it gives you any grief.

    Learning about fiber networking

    BIG HINT: Never look in fiber. But honestly, if you need information of fiber it depends what you need. For basic terms, I'm always a fan of http://www.webopedia.com. For more advanced stuff, such as implementation in a SAN or a corporate backbone, I'd look to Cisco Press for some good...

    No IP in winipcfg

    With Win98 it can be a real stinker sometimes about auto-addressing. Set up a nice class-C subnet (255.255.255.0) and creat your own IP's. Win98 looooooooves static addressing and it save headaches down the road with smaller network I find (especially small P2P-based networks like that one)...
