KV8 Pro Powering Down By Itself Before Post

I think the board might be a bad one. I've stuck in ram, video card and PSU from my other machine that I know works fine. Heh, I've also taken the cpu out and put it back several times. This one has me stumped, I can't think of anything else to do. The beeping is also starting to sound...

Yes the ATX12V cable is plugged in, but it does the same thing whether it is plugged in or not. I just tried the power switch thing and it doesn't start up when I first plug it in. I can have nothing but the ATX Power plug plugged in or everything plugged in and it'll do the same thing.

KV8 Pro Powering Down By Itself Before Post

I'm putting together a new system and am having a lot of trouble getting it to post. Hopefully some of you will have some ideas. The system consists of: Abit KV8 Pro (K8T800 Pro chipset) AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 MB L2 Cache ATI 9700 Pro 2x 512meg Kingston PC3200 Antec 400watt PSU The...

    AMD Low Power CPU?

I'm currently running a Palomino 1700+ on a Soyo SY-K7V DRAGON Plus! (266a chipset). According to this, the board only supports Palominos and not Thoroughbreds. However, looking over the newest BIOS updates, it states that the newest fix is "Enable support for AMD Low power CPU." Is this...

    Is my PSU dead?

Hmm I hadn't thought of trying that. I was going to try and borrow a friend's power supply tomorrow, I can try mine in his system while I'm at it. How do you tell what the prerequisite amp is?

    Is my PSU dead?

Hi everyone, I came home today and tried to turn on my computer but all the fans turn on for a 1/10th of a second and then nothing else happens. The fans won't even do that a second time unless I flip the power switch on the PSU off and on again. I tried changing the power cable and using a...

Intel or AMD? plus some other oc'ing questions

I would go for a PIII700. I've built 2 athlon systems for friends and those things run HOT at default voltage/speed. For the most part PIIIs are more expensive, but the 700 is quite the steal. I hit a gig with mine and am quite pleases by the results.

    Stupid Question p3-450

PIII 450s are SECC2s, which means that the side that faces the heatsink should be bare. The core should come in direct contact with the heatsink for better cooling. Make sure you get an appropriate heatsink/fan setup for it.

    Are the Intel P3 800E's good o/cers

However, the PIII core does have it's limits and it hovers around 1Gig. I think a 933mhz speed is a safer bet than 1Gig or 1.06Gigs. If you buy a higher multiplier cpu there'll be the same risks as going with a cheaper and lower clocked cpu.

Teckram DC-390U2W at 44MHz PCI frequency?

Um, that's 11mhz or 33% over specs, chances are it won't

    Help!

What cpu cooler are you using? Chances are, it isn't mounted correctly. Take your slocket out, mount the cpu and heatsink on it and check for a space between the core and the heatsink and make sure it isn't slanted. Make sure you use some sort of thermal transfer material between the two.
