    blue LEDs and resistors

erm, I don't see why you would ever need a -12V source to drive a LED with a transistor :) The only thing that you could argue about is the base resistor, which seems a bit large after all because you only have 2 V to drive it. So that would give 1.4 V over the resistor resulting in a base...

    blue LEDs and resistors

hmm, that's a bit of pickle you got there :) What I would do is use the +2V to drive an NPN transistor which in turn drives your LED. That way you can use the +12V to power the LED, while using the +2V to drive it. If you're not into electronics you probably don't have a clue how to use a...

    Logitech Z560 in Europe ?

Hi, I 'm really looking forward to the release of the Logitech Z560 speakers in Europe, but the Logitech site still doesn't show any info about these speakers (except for the USA site). Is there an email adress where I can contact Logitech about this 'cause the site is a bit sketchy on the...

what to do with a spare bay??!! Suggestions please!!

Front acces panels are convenient if you have to change hardware or speakers often. You could either do that, or do something cool with it. There are loads of things to do with an empty bay, you could: -build a baybus in it to control fans -build a VU meter in it (really cool) -put an HD in it...

need help with the terminology behind resistors (im new!)

okay, here's how it works. You place a resistor of 470 Ohm in series with the LED, then you place that circuit parallel over your fan. Put the switch in series with the fan and voila. You see, the LED has a forward voltage of approx. 2 V depending on the colour (doesn't really mather much), so...

Force refesh rate for games under W2K ?

I have a Kyro II video card and like the Nvidia cards it also suffers from the 60 Hz refresh rate bug under Windows 2000. But unlike Nvidia there isn't a fix for the Kyro II, so I tried Powerstrip but that doesn't seem to work either. Is there another way of forcing refresh rates ? My monitor is...

Forum thinks I'm someone else ?

Hi, since a few days I've had some troubles when I log into my membership account from the Anandtech forum. At first when I logged in the system would recognize me as Fox3613 even when I entered my Username and Password correctly. So I wrote an e-mail to the anandtech moderator explaining my...

    anyone try new via 4in1s?

I installed them 30 minutes ago, doesn't seem to cause problems so go for it ! I have them installed under Windows 2000, I dunno if they're meant to boost performance or just to be XP compatible. I leave the testing to someone else.

Case cooling for a athlon 1ghz

So that's a 38 MHz overclock which makes your LE identical to the normal Radeon right ? I also read the following in a review by Anandtech : "On our Radeon LE card, a simple click of the mouse in PowerStrip allowed us effortlessly bring the Radeon LE's clock speed from 148MHz up to 183MHz...

Case cooling for a athlon 1ghz

Only 81 F that's just 27 °C which is very good. So I doubt the locking was because of your CPU, that leaves the Radeon. How high is it OC'ed and do you have a good enough heatsink on that ? My CPU runs 37 °C (98 F) idle and 45 °C (113 F) full load with only the top exhaust fan and a HD cooler...

Case cooling for a athlon 1ghz

A 120 mm topfan might be a bit large to fit in the top. I have a midi case and my PSU and CDrom were in the way so the largest I could fit was 80 mm in the top. But if you have a larger case and have the room why not. How hot does your CPU run with your case closed now ?

Case cooling for a athlon 1ghz

Make the one in the bottom-front of your case your intake fan, the one on top exhaust and the one in the side also intake. That way the air will pass along your cards and then rise up to the top of the case (hot air rises) where it will be extracted by the top fan. Don't open up unused...

Case cooling for a athlon 1ghz

A blowhole in the top of the case, over the cpu works quite well for me. It dropped CPU temp about 7 °C, if you add an intake fan also it will probably be even lower. And finally maybe another fan in the side of the case to blow on the OC radeon. That should keep things cool enough.

    Fan connectors

The connectors you're looking for are called Molex connectors, they come in many forms including the 3-pin motherboard connector and the 4-pin power connector. They're manufactured by (obviously) Molex.
