I had the same issue with an unknown device in the device manager, I solved it via installing SP4 for win2k. I have heard a service pack helps for winXP as well. Just remove unknown device and refresh hardware. I hope this helps.

I had precisely the same issue on my computer. I downloaded SP4 for Win2k, installed it, restarted computer, removed the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager, scanned for hardware changes and..... USB 2.0 hub was found and installed!!! No more yellow exclamation mark!
