Hardware advice for a quiet system

Got my system put together. I haven't done any tests, but here are a few initial thoughts: Dead quiet. the noctua cooler and the fans in the Silverstone TJ08 are totally silent. I thought originally I could hear it, but it ended up being my neighbor's air conditioner through my closed...

    Advice for quiet cooling

I went with the noctua. 12.8 dba (on low) is a lot quieter than most of the other stuff out there. my case is rated at around 20 dba. I'll let you know if it fits. If not I think I'll spring for the corsair water cooler thing. From what I saw, the 7 inches SHOULD be enough to put in the...

    Advice for quiet cooling

I actually looked at the mini P180s size/weight and checked out some suitcase sizes and decided very quickly to stick with the silverstone. What's the point of a micro-atx if it's very close to the same size of an ATX? I liked the antec a lot better on paper minus the dimensions, but...

Hardware advice for a quiet system

Just for reference. I ended up going with the Silverstone case mostly because looking at suitcases/briefcases/carry-ons it seems to fit much nicer. I liked the idea of the Antec better, but it just seemed that much bulkier, and the extra 8 lbs / 2 inches on 2 sides turned me off. I got...

    Advice for quiet cooling

Most likely a silverstone tj08 or the antec p180. I'm very open to suggestions. I want a micro atx because i might be moving this computer around a bit, but it's seeming more and more like a pain and the P180 is already pretty close to an atx mid tower.

Hardware advice for a quiet system

The Antec P180 looks nice to me, the price is right, and I like that they mention silence a lot. To be honest I have a silverstone case now and I'm not thrilled with it, but the one I'm looking at now is a different model, and it wasn't that silverstone seemed cheap or anything, I just wasn't...

Hardware advice for a quiet system

By the way Alyarb, with everything you've recommended that I need in my shopping cart at newegg, shipping included, I'm at $714.25. I had a friend recommend this message board, and I owe him at least a beer.

Hardware advice for a quiet system

Seems to me like the extra cash for the AM3 board is money well spent. A lot of sound cards are PCI for whatever reason, and if the option ever arises I'll have the PCI E x 16 too. You've convinced me to get new memory (the old memory will go towards my parent's new computer that'll...

    Advice for quiet cooling

I need an inexpensive, extremely quiet, and compatible cooler to cool an AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 gHz in a micro atx case. Ideas: Noshua NH1 Corsair all in one water cooler Thanks in advance.

Hardware advice for a quiet system

Sorry, I didn't see the edit for a few days. Memory is certainly the next thing I'm planning on replacing. I was going to tough it out with the memory I have for a few months and upgrade once I know exactly how my finances look. The big reason I'm replacing the computer now and not later is...

Hardware advice for a quiet system

Thank you very much for your help. I actually have some memory, a hard drive, a DVD burner, and a power supply handy from my previous computer, so that's all extra cash I'm saving. Will the Noctua fit in the AM3 socket? I didn't see it explicitly stated, but you definitely seem to know...

Hardware advice for a quiet system

The case is the thing where I feel pretty stuck. With the passively cooled graphics card I'd imagine airflow would be fairly important, and fans are definitely the thing that are going to make the most noise. A very distant concern is the aesthetics of blue or red lights. The computer will...

Hardware advice for a quiet system

I'm not hellbent on anything really, but I do want something that has some sort of transportability. My top priority is quiet, performance and budget are tied for second, and the last is transportability.
