There are many ways to get this to work, but the easiest and best setup is this:
Have a SATA Cd/Dvd drive - NOT IDE.
Plug-in the hard-drive in the SATAII0 (TOP) PURPLE gigabyte controler.
Plug the sata cd\dvd drive in the first ORANGE SATAII port (as recommended).
Boot and enter...
I formated and didn't install the sata raid drivers. I also didn't install JMicron drivers.
The DVD drive works like a charm now, just that the system doesn't feel as fast / stable as it should. I'm a bit unhappy at Gigabyte for trying to push me not to use their IDE port.

I'm using a IDE DVD-RW (LG GSA-4163B) plugged in the IDE port of my Gigabyte 965P-DS3 rev 3.3.
It worked to install windows, it was working to install drivers off cd in windows, then it disapeared and stopped working, now theres just a ! in my device manager.

I have the 965-P DS3 too with the same specs as you but not raid. Call gygabite and whine. THere is no perfect solution if you don't have the perfect cables, bios config and drivers + bios version.
