Just checked this thread again by chance, ^ Great idea! ^
The drive was purchased in June '11 so I'm gonna check if there's perhaps a 3 yr manufacturer's warranty!
Gonna proceed with a secure erase (since I gather the sector remapping happens automatically) and going to monitor the health status attribute counts after I start using it.
Thanks!
Hi there,
My storage drive (Samsung spinpoint F3 1TB) started failing while I was downloading a torrent with a failed CRC check (I believe that was the uTorrent error), upon further investigation with HD Tune Pro I found the following problems [attached later].
In short, it looks like...
Hey RadiclDreamer,
You were correct, the solution was to update the firmware. I plugged the drive into a SATAII port to get the updating software from Crucial to recognize the drive and from there everything went smoothly. Plugged the drive back into a SATAIII port and the stability issues...
So, after booting into a Live Ubuntu session, I didn't come accross anything in dmesg (no errors, no SATA/IDE/ATA/storage related warnings).
fdisk -l doesn't see the troubled SSD at all. Issuing partprobe then fdisk -l seems to have no effect either (thought I guess partprobe just re-reads the...
Good idea. I'll boot from a LiveCD tonight. I'm familiar with dmesg and I'll mount the drive. What are some common diagnostic tools that come bundled on the LiveCD (I haven't had a chance to diagnose HDD issues on Linux before)? Alternatively I can probably run the OS out of RAM (I have a...
Hello, have had great experiences here before with solving computer issues, so thought I'd ask again:
A couple days ago, I've started experiencing severe instability issues on my machine. The issues are:
applications become unresponsive shortly after booting, once this begins happening...
Thanks for the quick reply.
Actually, this is an internal 3.5" bracket reader, so it is connected via SATA to the SATA controller, USB to the USB header (both on the motherboard) and via Molex to the PSU.
This is card reader in question:

Hello,
I've recently installed a multi-card reader / usb bracket that has slots for MicroSD, SD, eSATA, 5V out, & 3 USB2.0 ports. Windows 7 decided to assign all the new SD card slots their own drives and letters (these are all labelled 'Removable Disk'). Now whenever I open My Computer (or...
RAM is not dependent on CPU Socket type - if you are referring to AMD's Socket 939. This is an LGA775 board at any rate. The sticks are rated DDR2-800.
In other news:
Memtest86 is passing. Windows is not booting. Time to shell out for HCI Memtest Deluxe for further testing.
New developments:
Flashed the board with custom BIOS 2.20a.
Board boots with stick 3+4, just stick 3, or just stick 4.
In both cases where stick 4 is present, it only registers for half of its capacity (512MB).
Memtest86 fails immediately with 3+4 dual channel config.
Memtest86 is currently...
Hello everyone, once again I come here for some opinions.
I've been fighting to get a pair of 1GB Crucial Ballistix sticks to work in the 4coredual-sata2 board. The board previously housed 2x1GB Kingston PC2-4200 RAM and worked fine. I've swapped the Kingston sticks with the Ballistix to my...
Good evening,
I've recently opened up one of my old desktops with an Abit-NF7 motherboard in it in order to replace the motherboard and put a new CPU in it. The last time I've booted the machine successfully was in June of 2008 prior to taking it on the road with me on a couple moving trips...
I have this board lying around along with a couple CPUs (e2200 65nm, and e5200 45nm), does anyone actually have it running with a 45nm CPU in it? I don't want to spend the time installing the e5200 if the 45nm tech is not supported by the current BIOS.
Thanks in advance (and I apologize in...
