I have a dual processor machine running on win2000pro.
I use the machine with 3dstudio Viz and photohsop mostly, and quite heavily... ie with two copies of viz running as well as photoshop simultaneously...
I was wondering if winxp would perform better under this multitasking workload? As it...
ok.... thanks.... sorry guys for not checking around the forum hard enough.....
I did have a look a week or two ago, but found nothing...
I had a feeling that it might be a jumper thing, as as far as I could see, there aint no settings in the bois to switch the damn thing off!
Cheers again!
That's the question really... my system sticks on the RAID controller screen for 10 seconds or so... and it says I can enter the RAID utility by hitting shif+s or F4, but when I do, it does nothing!
Asus A7N8X with latest BIOS
Its the part of the boot sequence that checks for RAID devices...
I've just rebuilt an old machine, and it doesn't use brass standoffs..... is this likely to cause problems, like a live case!?
The strange thing is, that if I were to put stand-offs on, then the face-plate for the sockets would be too low.... so I don't think it would be possible to use...
I am happy with my new a7n8x.... but with one exception.....
I find the POST/pre-OS-loader too slow.... It takes almost the same time from powering up- to the windows loading screen, as it does to load windows....
I have enabled the fast POST, but the system still waits for a few seconds when it...
thanks for the reply...
I just wanted some confirmation that I wasn't stressing my system too much....
I can't work out what to do next to reduce the noise levels more.... I'm tempted to get a baraccuda hd to replace the THREE smaller drives I'm currently using.... :) I'm sure that would...
I've just set up a new system, aiming for best performance, but maximum silence!
At the moment, I have the zalman cpu fan up at the max speed, so I could reduce the speed of the fan.... but will it do much damage to the cpu?
Idle CPU temp : 34
Idle MB temp : 32
Maxload CPU temp : 42
Maxload...
How would I achieve that? ... I cannot seem to go any further than a multiplyer at 12.5x .... Would I need to start increasing the FSB from 166? or can I unlock the multiplyers above 12.5 somehow?
I appreciate that a more aggressive cooler would allow better overclocking, but I am actually...
I have just got a new system and I need any advice on how far I can take the oc... and how to do it!
Spec :
ASUS A7N8X nforce 2
AMD barton 2500oem (1840Mhz roughly) Oc'd : Multiplier 12.5x to roughty 2000Mhz... Cooled with the Zalman flower

Hi all, the powercolor fiasco continues....
I have just got a powercolour radeon 9700pro....
I installed powerstrip to check the speeds....
They were a few Mhz short of the advertised
325 Mhz Core, 310Mhz Memory.....I think it was 324 / 297
I returned the card to the store that I got it from...
Thanks for the reply....
I've specced up a comparative Dual processor system.... which one would you recommend for 3d rendering and video editing ?
I would think the dual-system would offer best improvements for all the long processes such as encoding and rendering....
but for 3d modelling...
I am building a workstation for 3d rendering and compositing.....
Can anyone suggest which of the two set-ups below I should get? I can't work out myself which one will offer the best performance / value / future-development -
Any advice or suggestions appreciated!
I already have a Radeon...
I am planning to buy the following setup
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe nForce2
AMD Barton XP2500+ 333FSB
OCZ512MB PC3200 Performance EL-DDR CAS2
Total Cost = £416 incl.Vat
On the issue of memory.... what kind of performance hit would I get if I went for the cheaper TwinMOS 512MB DDR CAS2.5 or the CORSAIR...
