Recent Price Drops on Phenom 2 940's

They are listing it as AM2+. :/ Of course, it would make more sense for it to be AM3.

    New PC build

Haha...well, I'm not sure where to shave off costs. My current PC has a moderately crappy motherboard, which was a big mistake, so I don't want to skimp there. I don't want anything below a second-tier CPU (i.e. Core 2 Quad or Phenom II X4). And the hard drives and case are kind of just a...

    New PC build

Really? I didn't realize that Crossfire only worked with games that are written properly...I thought it was taken care of at a lower level. Is the same true of SLI?

    New PC build

Thanks for the advice! I have a few questions about it though. :P @Schmide: - Is the Raidmax bundled PSU good (enough)? The Smilodon does seem like a nice case; I'd already been leaning towards it, but then I started worrying about PSU quality. - Is there something specific about that...

    New PC build

Hey Anandtech, so I asked your advice about 4.5 years ago, last time I built a computer, and I'm going to do it again. Thanks in advance! 1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. Gaming and number crunching. I'm a CS grad student and it's...

About to order a new PC - is this all compatible?

Thanks guys...I ordered it last night and did go with an Antec case, however, I didn't see the mobo advice in time. Still I'm sure the 150 will be fine. Anyway I appreciate all the advice you guys gave.

About to order a new PC - is this all compatible?

What's the quality like on Aspire cases? The brand was reccomended by a coworker, and while more expensive and less attractive than Raidmax, they're not too bad in either of those directions...

About to order a new PC - is this all compatible?

Can you reccomend a better case? Things I'm looking for are a good PSU (not that I know how to tell the difference past the number of watts), more than 2 fans, decent aestetics, and preferably under or around $75. Thanks for the advice.

    17", 500:1, 320 nit, 16 ms...$335

Ugh, I was afraid of that. Well maybe I'll go with the IIYama one that is $419 at Newegg. I really hope I don't get to college and not have time for gaming any more. Thanks for the advice.

Well I'm not getting this one but it might work for you...Benq is supposed to make a good monitor.

    17", 500:1, 320 nit, 16 ms...$335

Well, looks like DVI it is. I'll probably go with the $360 one on Newegg, even though it has a 25ms response rate and only 260 nit (at least it has 500:1 contrast). I am not trying to break the bank here... If you are up for spending $450 take a look at this one...
