(Dead) Maxtor 80GB (8MB) 7200 HARD DRIVE for "$53.53" AR & coupon at Office Depot

Rec'd mine today from OD...ONE year warranty stated on the box In fact all 8mb cache models are 1-yr warranty models. The Office Depot webpage showing 3-yr warranty is incorrect. Their CS just verified that this info is wrong, they called Maxtor to confirm. Your local OD(or staples) may have...

Which position is better for fans? In or Out?

Adding a filter on my chieftec/chenming case was a breeze(hehe). Found some porous filter material originally intended to be a pre-filter to a shopvac. It's thickness(3/8") makes it perfect to be placed behind the front plastic bezel/cover, in front of the aluminum case fans. I didn't even have...

No RPM reading for 80mm NMB Ultra Quiet 3-pin fans?

bingle, Have you checked the bios versions on the boards? I know the Abit mb has a a bios update that addresses this problem. Not familiar w/the Epox board. Link to bios page here

TEMPS just keep getting HIGHER! while IDLE!

Those temps seem accurate since you're OC'g to that degree with that particular cooler(hint). The vantec CCK-6040 was never a record breaker in the cooling dept. Find yourself a better cooler...just my $.02.

Which position is better for fans? In or Out?

ditto godmare's post. There should be an even airflow going into and out of the case. Of course there should be the least amount of obstruction in case, otherwise none of it will matter that much.

    Cooling Athlon XP 2000

I like to use a thermo controlled fan. It offers very quiet operation when cpu usage is low and increases cfm as needed when gaming, etc. ThermalTake SmartFan II is a good one, just be sure to place the thermo sensor close to the base/cpu as directed. You can see it: here

    Looking for Gainward 6VBA-133a manual

It does sound very much like a CPU compatibility problem or a bad cpu. Hope it's the prior mentioned.

I need advice re: a new mobo purchase!

I bought two MSI KT4 boards(an Ultra and a KT4VL) on newegg refurbed for $29 each. I figured that out of the two I would hopefully get one good working board. I was fortunate enough to have rec'd two working boards w/the latest bios'. Both are great boards w/USB2.0. The Ultra SR has the...

No RPM reading for 80mm NMB Ultra Quiet 3-pin fans?

You may want to try hmonitor software, at least the free demo to see if it gets recognized. The demo period on mine expired a month ago and the software is (so far) still working.

Is 51 Degrees C too hot for a case?

CPU temp below 60C at full load is still safe. You may want to get some thermo controlled case fans, I use them and love them...very quiet.

    Anyone know where I can get a 60mm > 80mm fan adapter in/to Canada ?

Once you get the adapter, you may want to gut the 60mm fan to where it's just the shell and then place the adapter onto that(if you have the space for the added height) Make sure the adapter is a funnel type, this will slightly increase the cfm/cooling.

This is bad, I feel depressed now that my system upgrade is done.

Well, she should be grateful you haven't attempted to upgrade her! Or at least her "system". That could be real expensive.

    Cooling Athlon XP 2000

Hi Uber, I'm new here, but not new to building pcs. The AX-7 is a decent budget heatsink, a little dated(alum vs. copper) but will still cool very well especially if you don't intend on overclocking. However, the Panaflo L1a doesn't push enough air to allow the heatsink to cool the cpu the...
