Need windows 7 Guru. USB hubs do not work

Aha. Thanks for the tip, I never even knew you could show hidden devices. I see the option now, and you can even stop those devices without uninstalling then, which is perfect for trial and error, Ill give that a try tomorrow, thanks!

Best home server OS for x86 (no 64bit) computer

If its only going to serve as file server, pick a NAS distro like OpenFiler or FreeNAS: http://www.freenas.org/ http://www.openfiler.com/ That way you get no headaches, and nice browser interfaces and everything you need without the dead weight (and associated security risks) you dont need.

Adding privilage to user in UBUNTU 11.10

Sounds you are following an outdated how-to. The installer takes care of that, but to use USB devices in the VM, you do need the closed source virtualbox version, not the OSS one in the repositories. Grab your copy here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Need windows 7 Guru. USB hubs do not work

Hi, Im looking for someone who knows more about windows than I do. My neighbours PC has a very weird and annoying problem. USB hubs do not work. Ive tried 4, some powered, some passive, all of them only work if you insert just *ONE* device. The moment you insert a second device (no matter...

Libya: U.N. Security Council to support action short of invasion

This. Not too mention the situation in Bahrain where Saudi troops are slaughtering protesters, and that is likely to spill over to Saudi Arabia itself. Are we going to impose no fly zones there too?

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Yeah, it sits smack at the ocean front, not 200m from the sea: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=205798199449714421199.00049e850137e29c7df5f&ll=37.42164,141.035743&spn=0.014826,0.030448&t=h&z=16&iwloc=00049e850138ac09b67df I suppose there is a reason they built it there...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

You have to be kidding. Of course the plant was designed with the threat of tsunami's in mind. There isnt a place on earth thats more likely to be hit. Where did I say that? Although "giant disaster" would be an appropriate word if you just take in to account the cost of those plants which...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Not that big. The one's I saw at a local nuclear power plant (granted, a much smaller plant) where about the size of a small ship engine. Think fishing boat. They had at least 4 of those, totally redundant and independent and each was adequate to power the emergency systems of a plant at full...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

So how hard is it to build a truck sized enclosure that resists 30 foot of water? Im serious, I dont get it. Even if the generators would shut down while submerged (as if a breather or oxygen supply would be that hard), I dont see any reason why it would be difficult to make a generator or...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Yeah so? I dont see why you cant design a a diesel generator that survives a 10 or 15 quake. We are talking about a device that fits on a truck, not a skyscraper here. And we could submerge them in 200m of water like 70 years ago too.

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Does anyone know what exactly happened to these electric generators after the tsunami? Things is, I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that a nuclear plant build right at the ocean front (is that really clever btw?) in one of the most earthquake/tsunami prone area's in the world...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Location and depth of the epicenter are more important than the richter magnitude. Back in 1995 (?) much of Kobe was also leveled by an earthquake of "only" 7.3, but in that one, just like the Haiti one, the epicentre wasnt 200Km off shore, but in land and IIRC relatively shallow. Thats not to...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

The richter scale number they report, like 8.9 or whatever it is, is an exponent of 10. A 8.9 earth quake means the measured amplitude of maximum ground motion is 10 ^ 8.9 (micron). So a full point increase in richter scale means a 10x fold increase in amplitude, but amplitude doesnt relate to...

    8.8 Earthquake hits Japan

Briefly had my brother on skype, he is in Tokyo, he's fine, though a bit shaken literally and figuratively. He cant see any major damage where he is. He described the event as if he was in a high speed train that derailed. My hat is off to the Japanese building engineers.
