If it happens to you, I would like to know if you're using SBLive Value!
I've managed to turn on DMA and achieve stability (for both Primary and Secondary IDE channel) once I REMOVE MY SBLIVE VALUE!
Put my SBLive Value back on, the system immediately becomes unstable....
So in conclusion...
Have u loaded up the IDE Master 3.11 Beta (do not install from the 4-in-1, do a standalone) and MSI's BIOS 2.2??
Mine before didn't work even after swapping drives, but when I installed the two updates above and put all my IDE peripherals on Primary, it is now very stable. Still unhappy though...
At least I'm not the only one facing this crazy behaviour.
Anyway, my local MSI distributor replied and told me to use an ATA66 cable for the Secondary IDE....I did exactly that and no difference for me, still hangs. You guys might wanna try it out...and pls post to this thread whether it works...
I doubt the secondary IDE channel or the southbridge is bad because I have my Plextor 12/10/32 as secondary master and my TDK 12/10/32 as secondary slave, both running in DMA mode, with no problems at all
You must be lucky then to get a good board. I suspect my southbridge is from a faulty...
my CD-ROM is primary is simply due to physical constraints inside my casing. CDROM is placed above HDD, thus if I make HDD master, the slave port cannot reach the CDROM.
I tried installing the BusMaster on its own....problem still persists. I actually moved my CDROM back to Secondary Master and...

I've finally managed to get my MSI K7TPro2-A to work with both my IDE devices on DMA mode.
Here's the setup, hope it helps those having similar troubles....
Primary Master : Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM. (Using ATA-33 mode)
Primary Slave : Maxtor Diamond+45 7200rpm (Using ATA-100 mode)...
Hi,
Hmmm....the only jumpers I know in a CDROM would be the Master/Slave jumper. Are there more jumpers than that?? I didn't check the jumpers since Win98 could detect my DVDROM so I assumed jumpers are correct. Can you pls clarify what these extra jumpers do?? :)
Thanks for the tip :)
Argghhh...same problem here!!! Installing games or any kind of I/O activity over my DVD-ROM will have a good chance of locking up or rebooting my system. Problem will go away once I've disabled DMA for my DVD-ROM.
I've got the latest 4-in-1 VIA drivers....and all firmware updates are the...
Hi all,
I'm experiencing lockups when playing video clips from games (e.g. Baldur's Gate II demos a clip on Ice Wind Dale found in the CDROM Disc 1 as Promo.exe just double click and it will play).
However, I noticed that the lockup won't occur if I were to do the following:
1) Disable my...
