    hard drive under winxp bad ? but not on win98

    :) I dont think that it is the hard drive at all. You said yourself it was working properly with XP on the upgrade and it was also working with Win98. I would recomend going to the microsoft site and searching for your hard drive in the in-compatibility list if you still think its the HD.
