Yes I always make sure room temps are good and stable before doing any cooler testing. My system and the lights in my room always seem to keep the temp stable at around 20*C but I can control this more accurately if I needs be. Both my digital thermometers are also permenantly placed away from...

Yes, the cooler actually fitted much better after lapping and couldn't be twisted at all and the temps were 3*C improved. Beforehand the cooler could be twisted very easily, even when locked down on the chip with the screw tightened up quite a bit (I checked the twisitng with a washer mod as...

I've was doing a bit of reading on that front before buying the VX actually and it seems that not all CPU's are being created equal as I know of people who've had convex and concave IHS's on their CPU's, i7's inc'd. Mine was the TRUE black (about 4 months old) not sure what version it was really?

That's the reason I didn't have many different test results to show you guys really, as everything I did resulted in the same 2*C difference in temps compared to my TRUE, even after a 50 pass LinX run the temp was that same 2*C less

I had no option really on whether to lap my VX or not as it was so convex it was unbelieveble, far more than my previous TRUE was. On a perfectly flat surface I could get a 3000th/inch feeler blade underneath both ends at the same time

I tested the VX before lapping it on my unlapped CPU and noted temps, then I lapped the H/S as it was really convex in a North/South plane, then I lapped the CPU as that was a tad convex.

Here's my own personal mini review... After waiting for the VX's to arrive over here in the UK for ages, I finaly found a stockists who had them in a few days back (www.aria.co.uk) So the order went in immediately and my cooler arrived yesterday. This will be replacing my TRUE which is going...

    best thermal paste?

I've recently started using Arctic Silver Matrix, and doing my own pretty stringent tests found it to be 1*c better than A/S 5 which I've been using for years.

    Windows 7 Retail

You don't have to. I was asking a question in the hope of some reasurance in that buying a new £180 piece of software might just rectify a problem I was having. I went out and bought my full retail copy of Win 7 Ultimate this morning, one problem though.. I still have the same issue with...

    LLC - on or off?

I feel by the time we find out whether the usage of LLC was a good or a bad thing, the option to change it will have been taken from BIOS and set automatically as this has caused sooo much confusion since the 45nm chips became available.

    Windows 7 Retail

Thanks fellas for clearing that up. Just one more thing if I may please before I go and order my shiny new OS. I have been having problems with the Windows 7 version I'm using at the moment as it has been... Hmmm, how shall I say... tested beyond it's 30 day trial for a few weeks via a loader...

    Windows 7 Retail

Ok thank you.. So just so I understand it right.. OEM versions can NOT be transfered between systems, but it's fine to swap a retail version between systems even if the likes of the motherboard, CPU etc have been changed over/upgraded a few times? Kind Regards orb

    Windows 7 Retail

Hi all, Just a little advise please. I've been trying Windows 7 for a while now and I'm thinking about buying myself a full retail version for my system. The thing is that I'll be changing this system over to a new i9 build when they become available so I would like to know beforehand... Is...

    XFX GTX260 XXX HEAT?

Thanks fella's, I appreciate the interest and help. i just received a response from XFX regarding the temps on the XXX 260's and like a few of you said they are normal :) XFX techincal support informed me that the chips are designed to perform normally up to 110*C before performance may be...
