Looking for a lightweight file server OS.

TL;DR Hardware: dual core, 2GB RAM, 10TB worth of drives OS Objective: File server, bittorrent sync, (open)VPN, run off of USB ------------------------------------ I've got this weak but power efficient board with a dual core, only 2GB of RAM and plenty of SATA ports. In addition to being a...

Is TRIM supported in RAID0 yet? (AMD & Intel platforms)

A search just revealed some mixed and outdated answers. To clarify, I'm talking about using the firmware RAID, built into the motherboards.

What would you do with a weak/low powered system?

Say I were to use the lightweight XBMC/linus-type OS, would an SSD even make a significant difference? I always figured you'd only want to use an SSD with windows, just because Windows is far more bloated. I looked at the FreeNAS solution; The huge RAM requirements for ZFS baffled me. Wasn't...

What would you do with a weak/low powered system?

I have an Asus E45M1-M Pro laying around collecting dust. It's basically an mATX board with a soldered-on dual-core APU (E450). More specs here: http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/E45M1M_PRO/specifications/ I regret purchasing it and now it's too late return it. So, I'm stuck with using it...

Why Intel processor are adviced than AMD for gaming?

Yup, bunch of Intel fanboys here, disregarding everything else just because of a benchmark here and there for a game or 2. Thread crapping will not be tolerated -ViRGE

Why Intel processor are adviced than AMD for gaming?

Benchmark bias. You only buy Intel if you have a specific need (hackintosh, quicksync), or you have too much money. The average consumer wouldn't notice the difference between the 2 in everyday use. Because AMD is significantly cheaper than Intel, you can use the extra money towards something...

Need to upgrade to "stronger" wifi device

You know, I was in a similar predicament with weak wifi signals, packet losses, etc. I thought I'd give powerline a try, since I had nothing to lose, and it actually worked out really well. Powerline; there are ethernet adapters and wifi extenders if the device you're using does not have ethernet.

Divinity: Original Sin. Out Now! Discuss...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZFmA87FCuY It's kinda a mix of Fallout/Baldur's Gate; it becomes turn-based only in combat. You spend your action points and end your turn.

    Space Run

It's interesting and has a unique concept, which is what pulled me in. But I kinda got sick of it after a bit. It's one of those "play it once" games.

elementaryos is so similar to Mac. It's pretty sweet, took a jump into popularity out of nowhere.

Going from I7-3770K to Pentium G3420. Will I notice any decrease in web browsing?

At that point, you might as well go with an AMD APU. Then you won't need a discrete card to run your monitor.

Wasteland 2 is looking more awesome by the update

I predict this game will be quite buggy and have an unintuitive UI. Would love to be proven wrong though. But when you have this much content, it takes a lot of time to do a quality check. And let's face it, it's never on top of the priority list. Very few companies care deeply about their games...
