    DVI cable

the biggest difference is the pin-out. notice the differences in the d version vs the i version. -- basically the extra pins on the dvd-i version are so you can use a switching digital signal to an analog pinout -- 15sub d basically, even though nobody actually uses all 15 pins, its more like...

    conroe and SLI

intel 975 chipsets have the pcie controller to allocate more pipes, also they have 2x 16x slots. they can do crossfire/ati out of the box. unfortunately as you have seen you are s.o.l. when it comes to official support from both intel and nvidia w/r/t sli support. evidently there were...

    Which 19'/20' LCD for programmer?

i use 2 monitors at work, one to debug and one to code. wide is nice on the coding side mainly because all the open tabs the IDE has. not a dealbreaker though, i guess depending on your language you can just indent a lot.

huh that is one weird weird device problem you got there. try uninstalling the graphics card from windows on the stable system, unplug it and move it over to the new machine.

    Maybe Quad-SLI is not overkill...

pssh 4k horizontal res is so last year -- try 7680×4320 evidently the resolution was so high that people were getting physically sick when standing besides the screens, they felt disoriented by the lack of biofeedback -- things like low frequency noise and air displacement are obviously not...

Do you use a color management profile in Windows?

color space profiles are handy if you want to nail down your color calibration. use it if you are into having the color space of the monitor match the output of your printer. keep in mind though that calibration is the key word. if you get really serious about color cal you will accept...

    Blue Ray

funny you should mention that! the answer is NO -- the US (not so sure on the rest of the world) realized that the large part of the current HD televisions don't have HDCP -- basically you can safely assume if your hdtv was made before september of 2005 you don't have hdcp. evidently...

nail, meet hammer. BR looks good for consumers (larger fixed capacity,) HD-DVD looks good for manufacturers (mainly cheaper/easier to implement from a manufacturer's standpoint.) i want the first dual player one.

    Which has more job opportunities?

they're both the same now, really anybody saying one has better blah blah blah is picking sides, they're functionally so similar it's not worth arguing about. i've used both, currently toiling away with c#/2005. i use j2ee/eclipse as well, not so much in the last year. some things are better...

Need help choosing RAM: Corsair or Crucial?

yea, toss up is the best way to think of it. i have used micron's stuff (and so does corsair lol) for pretty much all my rigs going back 10 years, they are always solid performers. just make sure you can return it!

    Which raptor to get? ***Edited***

Also, I see people talking about great performance when they use a RAID config with the 74 drive. Specifically, the WD740ADFD -- I don't know much about RAID, period. I'm too data loss conscious to go with a RAID 0, but what does a RAID 1+0 entail and would it produce comparable speeds that the...
