It's time to build a new system and I was curious what the experts here at Anandtech thought would be the best fit for my needs based upon the criteria / info listed below:
I have never been a huge fan of overclocking as I prefer system longevity and stability followed by expected...
I am in the market to begin building a new pc and would like to get some feedback from the experts here.
I am an avid gamer (FPS/MMORPG), graphic designer, and I dabble in a bit of audio editing so that should help with the use that this system will receive.
I will toss out a few...
If AMD cuts their prices, what would be a good upgrade path at that point?
Conroe is definitely looking tempting, but I'm not sure what AMD is going to have to offer outside of AM2.

I have an AMD FX-53 running on an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard (bios 1.b) and OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200)...

Thank you both for the quick responses.
I guess my best bet then is to wait until late 2006/early 2007 once Conroe is out and focus on something with PCI-E as well.
Does that sound about right?
I have not been paying attention to the trends as my current system has been doing well running most things. There are a few games out there that give my system a run for their money on high graphical settings.
With that in mind, I would like a consensus from the informed opinions here if...
I don't understand why I would want to turn all the crap for the desktop off?? This is an AMD FX-53 lol shouldn't it be MORE than capable of handling it?
Good day,
I've recently built the following system:
AMD FX-53
MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum
OCZ 3200 EL 1 gig Memory
2 - WD 74 gig Raptor SATA drives
NEC dual layer dvd burner
485W True Blue Antec Power Supply
ThermalTake Tsunami Case
Radeon 9800 Pro (soon to be GeForce 6800 GT)
Dell 2001...
Thanks Regs.
How's the setup look so far? I plan to add an additional 120-250gigs in hard drive space, but I'm still leary on the hsf combo for the cpu since I don't plan to overclock I am under the assumption that the stock hsf should suffice.
Any thoughts?
I have recently purchased the following:
Thermaltake VA3000 Case (120mm fan on the front, back, and 90mm side fan)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Motherboard
Antec Trueblue 480w PSU
OCZ EL Revision 2 PC3200 2x512mb
NEC 1.44mb Floppy
Western Digital 36GB 10k RPM Raptor SATA
NEC ND-3500A DVD+...
I was under the impression that the GT/Ultra would only offer a mere 6% performance gain vs a non-ultra since the core clock wasn't but about 200mhz faster.
