Well if you look at http://game.amd.com/us-en/cros...ex_components.aspx?p=3 you'll see that your psu is not certified for the 3870x2,but it is certified for 2 3870's.Maybe with 2 cards drawing power from 2 pci-e slots it balances out the power draw better?
