How The ACLU Didn't Steal Christmas

I love when the truth is in such stark contrast with the rhetoric you hear from the critics. Where are all the ACLU haters? It would be nice to see at least ONE of them to react to this information. It seems to happen all too often that people would rather bitch and moan about an issue...

Which teacher/professor made the most significant impact on your life.

My senior english teach in high school had a profound effect on me. Although we almost completely disagreed politically (he was a hardcore christian conservative), he promoted free speech, open debate, and assigned us books the kind of books that open minds (for example, 1984). Additionally...

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

I hate to sound like a two year old.... but WHY do they have poor family structures. Moonbeam is trying to get to the root cause, while you continue to look at the surface. Your statement about similarly structured white families having the same problems illustrates the point. The task at...

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

I think Moonbeam's point is that if you don't think it's genetic, than what is it? Many believe it's because of the social class they have been forced into. It's their environment that causes the problem. People in power simply reinforce it in order to maintain control.

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

I think you are making a giant assumption thinking that there aren't as many liberals interested in ending the war on drugs for the exact same reasons. I certainly agree, and I'm liberal. In fact, it makes me liberal!

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

No kidding, that's why they have different labels. But they're still both crime, and white collar crime can affect the lives of millions.

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

While I agree with Dahunan, "biggest" doesn't mean "only". That said, I think the croney capitalism is at all time high with Bush in office. It goes on and on, from appointing corporate friends into positions of power (like a logging lobbyist being charge of government forest regulations) to...

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

That's not because Bush is in office. When things go bust whoever is in charge is going to react in a way that is popular with the people. Bush has no plans, nor ever had any plans, to take white collar crime more seriously.

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

If that is true, it's irrelevant. People who grow up uneducated, poor and desperate are more likely to commit crime. The powers that be like to keep those people uneducated, poor and desperate, so they can be arrested to show progress in the War on Crime / Drugs.

Isn't "Tough ON Crime" code for racism against blacks

I think it's more of a class war than it is racism. Keep the lower-class oppressed so that you can maintain control.

    A little exerciese...

When I think of religion I think of ... An organized group of people who share a common belief system that applies to those aspects of life that cannot be explained.

Where should we draw the line for religious freedom and religious tolerance?

 Doesn't matter what we call them, but we should at least concede the word Marriage to the nutjobs. It eliminates the religious aspect of the debate.

Where should we draw the line for religious freedom and religious tolerance?

Sounds more like an authoritarian government. Most communist nations are, but they don't have to be. You can't force anyone to believe anything. You almost can, but in the end people believe what they believe. That is... until we create brainwashing machines.

Where should we draw the line for religious freedom and religious tolerance?

Would simply saying "as long as you are not physcially infringing upon the freedoms of another" be flawed?
