9800GX2-->"Up to a 90% performance increase over the...

My AGP "issues" were common enough... I'm not knocking the HD2900XT, just the CCC, that's all I wanted to clarify with my questioning about your experiences with CCC. But that's all off-topic... Well, I suppose Fusion is off-topic, too. I wouldn't count Fusion = modularity as being very...

9800GX2-->"Up to a 90% performance increase over the...

What? I've made no secret of my dislike for the Catalyst Control Center. As I told you via PM, I would've kept the HD2900XT if I could've gotten CCC working, but I couldn't, and I also made out well switching to an 8800GTS (heat/power). Did you not also get frustrated with driver...

9800GX2-->"Up to a 90% performance increase over the...

I'm not knocking AMD's GPUs. I'm saying that it doesn't make sense to believe that AMD will try to corner the integrated GPU market by tying those good GPUs to a faltering CPU roadmap. If AMD's CPU future were looking bright, things would be different, but it isn't. As to being vague for...

No further AGP cards from nVidia.

evolucion8: Believe what you will. The fact is that there were a lot of crappy AGP products on the market, and enough people got burned that there's a lingering hatred for AGP on this forum. There's your explanation. You can claim no understanding of this problems, and you can act like only...

9800GX2-->"Up to a 90% performance increase over the...

I thought they already covered this? In case you haven't been following the CPU scene, AMD is having enough trouble competing (profitably) with Intel on non-Fusion processors. Any "free die space" that AMD gets with a shrinking process and/or other manufacturing advances (in which AMD are...

No further AGP cards from nVidia.

IMO, it's about hating AGP. People still have really bad memories of AGP. I went through quite a few BSOD/lockups with various boards and drivers. Just look at the recently resolved (?) issues with Catalyst drivers, for one example of how frustrating AGP can be. Back in my old AGP days, I can...

4 DIMM vs 2 DIMM for Stability and Overclocking

Slightly OT: Have you tried increasing DIMM voltage w/ 4 DIMMs?

    best reservoir

A few years ago I read about evaporative cooling. Apparently, you rig up a long, large piece of PVC pipe as a vertical shaft, drop the hot water down the shaft to cool it -- like a tiny, artificial waterfall -- and keep a fan running at the top of the shaft to help pull the moist air out...

    AMD plans native 8-core cpu

Native octa-core? I'd be happy if they got native quad-core working. The TLB issues, platform immaturity, and overclocking issues have really cut into AMD's support within the enthusiast community. I want a strong AMD!

Trouble with gigabyte ep35-ds3r- suspend / standby problems

I'm running the F11 BIOS, which is the latest for my P35-DS3R rev. 1.0.

Trouble with gigabyte ep35-ds3r- suspend / standby problems

Yep, I have smilingcrow's problem: I can confirm that this happens to me after clean installation (w/ drivers) after BIOS flash + clear CMOS. No standby at 6x333, but it works fine at 10x266 or even 6x300. Boosting everything by 0.2v still doesn't make S3 work at a high FSB. Nothing I've...

    No hi-K (or MG) for AMD's 45nm

A gallant effort, to be sure! :) Thanks for the recollection, BTW.

    No hi-K (or MG) for AMD's 45nm

Heat is the wasted energy, so if power consumption is not cut by much, heat output probably will not change much either. So this news means that the heat reduction won't be great? From what I've read, these chips run cool at stock speeds but really heat up near 3 GHz. But, AFAIK, those could...

    Overclocking problems

You might need +0.1v on the FSB and MCH w/ 9 x 333. Boosting RAM voltage may also help. My P35-DS3R runs the RAM at 1.8v fine when the CPU is at stock clocks, but, when overclocked, my RAM voltage takes a big dip from 1.78v to 1.75v sometimes, so I give it +0.1v to keep it always above 1.8v...
