This was a switch from XP home to XP pro. Everything is working but Device Manager says no sound device installed. I am looking for a driver for a ASUS AC97 VIA chipset. Any info would be appreciated.

Manufacturer : Compaq Presario 061
Model : PJ518AA-ABA SR1230NX NA440...
The existing driver dates back to 98. 98 tried to find a driver but it cant be identified. I figured getting a Win98 SE upgrade cd might be the best solution.
Any idea what to try?
The strange thing about this is the gateway I have a single gig and a 512 module in says single channel mode in the bios. Sounds like it did not read the threads...
The bios does not say single channel mode currently, so I am wondering if its working both channels or not. I guess I should DL sandra to see what that says. It runs vista fine on 1.5gig, but I think it would be better to have 2 especially if one channel is crippled.

I see these now - I...
System will not resume operation when coming out of standby. Requires a reset-power off/on and then the system displays a
CPU reset due to system overlock message.
Even when system is running at normal clock this problem is experienced. System config has not been changed for 8+ months...
Well, to be accurate, I am not trying to 'fix' all of these right now. We have some customers (on-campus ) at one of the larger Univs, who have complete autonomy over their IT resources and those are the ones I really need to implement THIS solution for ASAP (per the auditors).

Well, the (probably almost 2 to 3 thousand) desktops I am trying to implement this on are quite widely distributed geographically (as in state wide), and there is NO AD/GPO implementation. These users generally all have admin access (but otherwise, are quite basic in their windows familiarity)...
The registry hack as it is written at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555540 does not seem to do squat for requiring 8 character complex passwords and OR 180 password expiration. I entered it as written (see below), but it still allows just about whatever the local security policy is set for...
All indications are that the 'problem' has something to do with firefox being started for both users. When I used IE for the generic user session and navigated to these same websites, the problem is not experienced.
Now, any time the second user (a general user account with NO admin privs) is logged in and the system is switched back to the admin account, the thing reboots.
Any ideas?
