You only have 500GB + 80GB + 80GB + 80GB + 80GB + 80GB + 80GB of data - about 1TB.
Buy yourself a cheap 1TB USB drive like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145293 and then use it's included Backup Software to copy all your data to it.
Problem solved ! Unplug it, store it...
Yeah, their spec page is rubbish !
It would be useful to know how they perform in real-world use - if the access time can randomly increase by orders-of-magnitude like the busted JMicron MLC drives, then they're worthless junk.
I've never managed to find anyone who actually owns one though...
I've also looked into this exact issue for an old PATA laptop.
The Supertalent MLC and Kingspec MLC and Transcend MLC drives all use the original broken JMicron controller - they're junk.
The RunCore is the only one that performs "OK" - probably quicker than a mechanical drive, but not...
I never did get to the bottom of it - it appears to be a fault with the Intel Storage Controller, which may or may not be fixeable with a BIOS update (if your board manufacturer can be bothered :) )
Does anyone know of a way of moving partitions back into correct alignment ?
I ask because we have a few old laptops at work, that I've been thinking about upgrading with SSDs - but obviously the alignment will be screwed up when the old mechanical drives are cloned onto the new SSDs.
Is...
As above, both those CPU utilization figures are actually the same - both are within the margin of error.
On the other thread, we've come to the conclusion that it's simply a reporting issue - even though Device Manager is telling you it's Mode 2, it's actually running in Mode 6 as it should...
I installed Windows 7 directly to my brand-new drive, and I was under the impression that Vista and Windows 7 automatically aligned their partitions. Is that not correct ?
There's another guy here - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2031868 - with exactly the same problem ! He's seeing it on his mechanical Western Digital drives.
Wow, have a look at this thread - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2030891 - I have exactly the same crazy issue with my GA-P35C-DS3R !
Can anyone else shed any light on this ?
I have exactly the same issue on my Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (rev. 2.0) (Intel P35 + ICH9R Chipset).
My Intel drive is running PIO4 just like yours, and one of my Hard Drives is stuck in UDMA Mode 2 - the rest are UDMA Mode 6 as they should be.
Your solution is interesting - I'm also going to...
