    Firmware Updates for SSDs

Hello all, I have been looking for the right SSD for myself. The following is the list of my final candidates. Intel 510 250GB Micron Crucial m4 SSD 256GB OCZ Vertex 3 240GB (As you may already know, the price for this one is much higher...) I have two concerns: (1) I...

OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

I agree with you. I wanted to buy a sandforce drive and at the same time avoid the OCZ ones. However, I found that other sandforce SSDs are somehow inferior despite having the same controller model. To say the least, I was disappointed.

    Would my X3 435 be bottlenecking a 5850?

I just upgraded my PC with an HD5850. See my signature below. I also game at 1920*1080 with a 22 inch monitor. After overclocking my E8400 further to 3.85GHz, I dont think my 5850 is bottlenecked too much. However, this is my objective opinion. I haven't got the chance to compare benchmarks yet.

    It's back...LCD not syncing with 4890 again.

I once had the same problem with my Samsung LCD monitor. At first, I thought my video card was to blame. However, it turned out that I had a faulty monitor.

    What is peak memory bandwidth

The peak video RAM memory bandwidth is the maximum speed at which data can be transferred to the GPU for drawing images. Suppose that we have a 256-bit double-data-rate memory bus working at 2GHz. Then the peak bandwidth would be 256bits*2*2GHz, which is about 128GB/s. This much bandwidth is...

overclocking i7 860 with asus O.C. tuner turbo profile

I've never used anything like OC tuner turbo. In fact, I recommend against any kind of dummy method. Overclocking does not require much, if any, hardware background. There are plenty OC guides for i7 on the web. With some patience, you can easily achieve satisfactory results. From what I've...

Oh I do have a E8400 rig in my sig.

    intel ssd raid ?

Suppose that you have a motherboard with X58 chipset. Knowing that you run a tri-SLI setup, I assume that it runs in x16/x8/x8 mode. Now you have one PCI-E 1.1 x1 slot and no PCI-E 2.0 slot left to use. There is no room to add another PCI-E 2.0 card. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the...

    intel ssd raid ?

The LSI card is more expensive because it supports up to 8 SAS/SATA ports in RAID 0/1/1E/10. The HighPoint one supports only 2 eSATA ports. Because they are both adapter cards and not hareware RAID controller cards, there should be little difference in performance in a two-disk RAID0 setup...

    RAID Controller

A hardware controller card would cost you >$200. Since it is RAID 0 of two disks, there is little reason to buy a hardware controller card for it. I think you should use the integrated solution. However, I am a little concerned over the choice of RAID level. Wouldn't it be wise to choose a...

TSMC killing 32nm development? (from SemiAccurate)

TSMC's 28nm development had been on schedule so far. Risk production will begin in 2H2010. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=26392

Jen Hsun Huang says NO to Globalfoundries

How many other foundries besides TSMC currently has 40nm bulk process? Why do people just assume that GF's 28nm and 32nm process is destined to kick TSMC's ass? There is got to be something that I overlooked. I mean it doesn't make sense at all.

I concur! Intel "Extreme" graphics is is usually extreme enough for a business PC.

    ATI 5870 2GB Eyefinity (6) Edition review

The review is certainly not done by Taiwanese reviewers. The choice of words suggests that the article is written by people in mainland China. The Taiwanese and the Chinese use different terms for many words such as laser, monitor, potato. Another obvious hint is that the article is written in...
