Core i7 a waste of money for gamers, says Nvidia

Oh yeah, my E8400 is gonna be rockin' for a long time! A fast dual core is more than enough to skip the nehalem generation altogether and still game decently.

Computers now are so fast for every day tasks

That's because you don't have to upgrade. Most people are driven by the "OMG IT'S NEW AND SHINY!" argument. Some people just gotta have the latest and greatest. Those people don't realize that in the long run, they are throwming money away. For example, I spent money on a whole new system...

    Core i5 versus 775 quad-core?

Without HT disabled the i5 probably won't perform any better than a solid Core 2 Duo. And even with HT, I don't expect to see a significant advantage over High-end Duals. Keep your E8x00s everyone. They will last longer than you think. I'm talking gaming-wise only.

How much longer will Core 2 Quads be powerful enough for games?

My point exactly. Why worry about Quads, if Duos will still be capable of gaming for at least another 2 years? Maybe even more if you've got a good, solid Duo (Intel E8x00).

How much longer will Core 2 Quads be powerful enough for games?

You gotta be kidding right? 1 or 2 more years? For the Quads? lol That's how long I expect my dual (E8400) to last. I expect it to last even a bit longer. I'd say 2 to 3 years before it's completely useless for games. So people with quads should be set for another 3-4 years...

Would EVGA Voltage tuner work on other brands' GPUs?

Well, would it? Is it moddable in some way that would allow it? I wanted to increase my 8800gt volts, but I have absolutely ZERO knowledge of how electrics/electronics work. Not my field :P So, I would never dare to do the "traditional" volt mod... Cheers!

Suggestions on an upgrade from GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB

He's got an E8400. It's STILL one of the best gaming CPUs out there, and it obviously won't bottleneck a 8800GTS. In fact, it won't bottleneck any GPU, as long as you keep it single GPU. If you're headed for tri-SLI kind of thing, then yes, the 8400 will start limiting the cards. But for regular...

Higher PCI-E bus frequency = Higher OC?

Hey guys; Currently I have my Asus 8800GT @ Core: 700mhz; Shader: 1705mhz; Mem: 1030mhz(2060mhz effective). You all know 8800gt stock speeds, and I cant say it's a bad OC at all. This brings my 3dmark 06 score up from 11k to 13k(almost 14k actually). That's breaking into 9800GTX+ territory...

Is there some hack to run 3Dmark Vantage on XP?

Since when do I need a freaking specific reason for running a benchmark? Other than just curiosity, that is.

Is there some hack to run 3Dmark Vantage on XP?

Well, I have XP, and I love it. I refuse to install Vista. I will only move to Win7 when it comes out. So, that being said, I suppose there is no way to run Vantage on XP? I know it's DX10 exclusive, but still, so was Crysis in Very High and then someone hacked to run it on XP and showed that...

    Budget options - replacing a dead e6400

yh125d said: "You have alot to learn, young grasshopper. In the future, when most games will be bringing a C2D to its knees, those games will all be quad threaded, which will essentially DOUBLE the power of the CPU. So yes, a quad *will* last longer before it's obsolete" cusideabelincoln...

    Budget options - replacing a dead e6400

Since he mostly games, a quad core is a bit too much. The other tasks he mentioned can be done with a dual core with its hands tied. I wonder why people always recommend quad cores, regardless of what people do. Guess what: like I said, a CPU that is in the Core 2 family (Duo OR Quad) will...
