1) Install Windows 7 from the media. Do not enter in your product key.
2) After the install is complete, insert the Windows 7 media and run setup from the DVD.
3) This time, do not perform a clean install. You need to do an upgrade, which is the first option.
4) Activate Windows
Good grief.
It's a give and take, and I would give that away in return to be able to install any game in my library at will without any media or hassle.
Now they just need to get rid of the 3rd party DRM crap, they don't need it.
I haven't been here in a while and just wanted to see your input on how this works now. I tried to search for it but didn't really find the pinpointed answer.
Let's say I had XP Pro activated and installed W7 Upgrade and months later I experienced a had drive crash and everything wiped. How...
I just looked at some stats and at this rate it's going to take me some 8 years to overtake my next team member just 3 spots up and 35 years for the one after that.
tried several things, basically if I reduce to 4 windows the cpu cores are only at 50%
in other words....
i5 = 4 cores 4 threads at 100%
i7 = 4 cores 8 threads at 100% or 4 threads at 50%
W7x64 with Prime95 v25.11 build2 SoB on i7 but it's running 8 worker windows on the 8 threads. Is it be better to just run 4 threads or should I keep the 8 threads ?
Everything that I have explained in the past on W7 activation so far has been confirmed.
It's hard to explain when there's nothing official. We can only best speculate, but here's my understanding and best guesstimate on the issue.
Whether you have the full retail or the upgrade you can...
The "official" eula is not out yet but here is what I understand it to be.
If you do a W7 Upgrade over an activated XP system the Microsoft WGA servers will de-activate you XP key and will then migrate your W7 Upgrade key into a full version. This newly migrated key will allow you to...
Full Windows 7 Pro Retail is $329 Cdn.
W7 Upgrade = only on pre-activated system and you lose you previous XP or Vista key
W7 Full OEM = tied to motherboard or system, will required phone call for new system.
W7 Full Retail = installable on any system without pre-activation
It's not free software, it's a membership that gives you access to the software under certain terms and conditions where you are bound by the EULA of the MSDNAA agreements, if anyone acquires Windows 7 and they are not faculty or a student and has received Windows 7 under fraudulent terms it's...
Just to play devil's advocate here, have you read the entire forum posts.
You may potentially be getting an "academic license key" for Windows 7.

Q: Does the license (or "key") permanently unlock the software?
A: No - the key allows...
After reading everything I would go with the Asus M4A79T
I've decided to pull the plug on my Q6600 and use it as my secondary rig and go with ATI all the way.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
Asus M4A79T Deluxe
Mushkin HP3 8GB 4X2GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600
or
OCZ Gold 8GB 4X2GB...
It's not written in stone but according to everything that I have read and understood it to be Yes
However, again keep in mind that there's give and take and that the validation will be kept on the WGA Servers and that once you migrate your XP license, that license will be deactivated...
Well there go my plans to upgrade from my Win2K Pro Retail.
According to this site
http://mossblog.allthingsd.com...es-the-official-chart/
Walter Mossberg asked Microsoft for a Windows 7 Upgrade chart which they provided.

and if...
VL I think that once you upgrade and migrate your XP key to the W7 key and once the WGA servers deactivates the XP key, you will be able to re-install XP with the W7 Key only and XP will also be on the W7 disk. The old XP key and media won't be valid anymore.
It's all about licensing, you can...
