    52x Lite-on burner only burning at 40x

Try newer media. I've got some really ancient TY media that will only burn at 24. Bought new TY, I get full speed with that.

Antec 430 TruePower has only 5 connectors?! WTH were they thinking?!

My Antec TruePower 330 has 7 standard drive connectors plus two dedicated fan connectors. Perhaps you got one made at 4:59PM on a Friday? Maybe Antec switched OEMs? That has to be a runt in the litter. Even my SmartPower 350 has 7 standard drive connectors on it.

    New WD HDD clicks

WD 40gb drives normally support SMART. If it fails to function as a hard drive when you fire the machine up and won't acknowledge smart, I'd RMA it. DL the WD utility and see if it pops a code other than 0.. if it does, provide that info when you contact WD for another replacement. -NF..

Are northbridge heatsink fans a source of noise?

(Way back in the BBS days, and I'm talking early 80s here, we had the Commodore vs Atari vs Apple wars. Funny how things don't change much over the years.. ) er.. *ehm*... back to the topic at hand... Most fans on motherboards are relatively quiet until the sleeve wears out. Then it becomes...

    Go Back Problem

I unfortunately have seen a lot of cases where Go-back causes boot problems. I service end users' machines often and deal with this fairly often. Go-back appears to act just like a boot-sector virus. (Places itself in the MBR and loads before the OS starts its boot process). If anything...

Help me find a case like this Kingwin!!!

or... you could buy the windowless version of the 424 and do your own window if you desire.. Just a thought.. :) Nice looking case, btw...

My computer... sounds like a steam train at record speed!

Another fan to look into are the ones made by NMB. Very quiet and they run forever. I have an Antec SX635BII and have it outfitted with NMB low to medium speed fans and a TruePower power supply. Makes for a nice quiet system.

    System Instability: PSU?

If you have access to a good quality 300W+ power supply, test your system with that first. Often, cheap or underrated power supplies are a cause of instability. If your power supply feels like it has nothing inside the metal case when you remove it from your system, I'd suspect it. A good PSU...

any experince w/ this 500w power supply - onsale for $17+shipping

I wouldn't trust that thing. Get yourself a quality PSU such as a Fortron/Sparkle, Antec, Enermax or HEC.. I've got two machines here that belong to friends. Both have bad PSUs. One is a "Media Power" 400W that blew out in a P3 933 machine, the other is a Deer 300W that appears to have...

    Antec PSUs: TruePower330 Versus SmartPower350

TruePower: Dedicated circuits for each power rail, SATA connectors, 4 pin connectors for fans (controls speed = quieter computer), fans are double ball bearing. Smartpower: Standard power rail setup, no dedicated fan connectors, no SATA connectors, sleeve bearing fans. The SmartPower PSU is...

    SX835II front usb

check and make sure you have the pins connected right. If you get D+ and D- mixed up, you will get that error. All (modern) motherboards that I know of use the same pinout for external USB ports, regardless if they are 1.1 or 2.0. The front panel doesn't have any electronics, but it is...

Would i have any problems with leaving my computer on for 4 days unattended for downloads?

I've got three servers that run all the time, whether I'm in town or not. All are firewalled and all have UPS protection. The only consideration I'd make is if you're overclocked or have a cheap PSU or case. Got a solid case and PSU? Firewall and UPS? Let 'er rip!

    Fortron 400w or Antec True430

I'd imagine both are OEM from the same manufacturer... which means both are excellent PSUs. The sensors on motherboards tend to be inaccurate a lot of the time. Mine always reads 3.3 = 3.42v. I tested it using one of those handy PSU load testers, and it reads 3.30 on my Fluke meter. I've...

HAHA have you guys seen michaelscomputers.com

man, and I thought he was from south Florida... The four years I lived there, overnight computer shops popped up and disappeared just about weekly. Shows were really funny! Remember the 100X CD-ROM drive? Beach Computers claimed to have invented it. Then there were the countless systems...

Asus mobo's worth the extra $$$...?

I've built many systems over many years. I have had the best experience with Asus and Abit boards.. my Abit BH6 finally croaked after about 5 solid years of use as a server. Tried resetting bios and replacing battery... It's dead. My main box runs a a CUV4X board. I've had this board for...
