Speed up KvM switching or keep unplugged USB alive?

Well I know some KvM switches like the D-Link one somehow manage to keep unplugged devices detected and alive as the switching is nearly instantaneous without any detection by windows. But im not willing to go changing hardware just yet. Hence why I was looking for some way of telling windows...

Speed up KvM switching or keep unplugged USB alive?

I am trying to speed up my KvM's switching. Every time I switch to a new PC windows re-detects the USB devices. The process takes about 3-4 seconds and it is quite annoying. Anyone know if theres anything I can do to improve things? One of the things I was contemplating is finding some way of...

    KVM Switch + Wireless?

The KvM switch needs to be self powered. If its USB powered it likely wont work.

UPS and Heat Generation, any that are cooler?

Ok, so does the amount of devices plugged into the UPS increase the amount of heat generated? Like right now I have my KVM switch, telephone, monitors and all that plugged into the UPS'es. Would removing them and having them plugged into a regular power bar cause the UPS to work less and thus...

UPS and Heat Generation, any that are cooler?

Id like to see one that is just warm, not hot, and not scalding hot. Basically I dont want one that is going to heat up my office.

UPS and Heat Generation, any that are cooler?

I have two Belkin 900VA's in need of new batteries. While I was looking around for the serial number, I was reminded of the large amount of heat that they dissipate. These things are HOT, which doesnt help my already hot office during summer days. So I pose this question: are there any UPS...

If the big bang was a uniform explosion...

I think that could only be answered if we knew WHY the big bang occured.

    Very slow gigabit network

Well, here is some info: I picked up a Intel PRO 1000GT card. I tested it in all three systems. It has zero effect on my network performance. I used its built in cable tester to verify all my cables are good. I have also added a 3rd system to the mix, this being a XP MCE 2005 system with a...

    Very slow gigabit network

I cant force 1000Mbit. On the nForce 430 I get the option to Negotiate 1000FD, the Force settings only go up to 100FD. On my evga i680 both nics only have Force and Negotiate upto 100FD

    Very slow gigabit network

Well on the nForce 430 system, I can set to either Negotiate 1000FD , Auto Negotiate, or Force upto 100FD. On the nForce 680 system, I can also force upto 100FD or Auto Negotiate, there is no option to Negotiate 1000FD. The nForce 680 system has 2 gigabit nics. I have enabled and tested with...

    Very slow gigabit network

Did all that, was even rubbing a rabbits foot with my toes. Was going to pick up a dedicated gigabit nic for additional testing, but reading the reviews of the D-Link 530 makes me think otherwise. The alternatives are considerably more expensive. Hrm...

    Very slow gigabit network

No, brand new cables. Also tested with older cables. No difference.

    Very slow gigabit network

Alright both systems connected together with a Cat5e cable. Flow control on both disabled. Jumbo packets on both set to 4500. Speed set to Auto Negotiate. Both nics detected the speed as 1Gb. Performed a network transfer, and got network utilization steady of 12% like before. If I set both cards...

    Very slow gigabit network

After I set the jumbo frames from 1500 to 9000 on both systems, the following image is the result of my transfer. It started off great at around 30-35% utilization and then after a period of time dropped back to 5-10%. The results for other jumbo packet sizes are the same. Starts off great...

    Very slow gigabit network

But thats only with theoretical testing using Sisoft Sandra. Practically I get 9-10MB/sec, which is also the EXACT same performance if I set both cards to be 100Mbit.
