trininox I have the same issue w/ my matched Winbond memory. Normally runs at 320 and any attmpt to change that higher and the computer fails post w/ a checksum error (Bios usually ends up corrupted), I'm running the 1006 final version of the bios. If In over clock hen it drops the memory speed...
Yeah I don't know what is going on w/ some of my other issues.
My 400DDR DC mem will only run at 320, any attempt to move it up to 400 results is a bios crash. Also I noticed that the AGP is at 4x instead of 8x and I don't know if there is a setting to change that in the bios. I think I'll wait...
***************UPDATE*******************
Ok, I fianlly called ASUS tech support and he steped me through some tests.
One test was to remove all agp/pci cards from my computer and start the system up which I did, and it posted. I then plugged my ASUS G4 TI 4600 graphics card in as started my...
It seems to vary from person to person - if you read through the thread you'll get an idea about what has been working.
jdmesty - I remember that you were saying that the North Bridge Controller was unalligned with the base plate it sits on so that it's a square under the P4 chip instead of a...
Real bummer. I know it was a check sum error so the CD should of fixed it.
Well I left the battery out while I'm at work so that'll beabout 15 hours instead of the 7 1/2 last time. But hust how long can the bios stay w/ no power?
Well I tried everything last night:
1) Using the INSERT key during boot (and F2)
2) Using the CMOS jumper
3) removing the battery (CMOS) for 7 1/2 hours then putting it back and using the jumper (CMOS)
I didn't make the bios floppy bootable but since it doesn't even get to POST it's not going...
Again thank you!
A final question (I hope):
Say all this works and I'm running w/ the 1004final Bios can I use the Asus bios update prgram in windows to upgrade the bios or should I create a 1006 (or higher?) floppy and flash it?
Thanks again.
jhites, thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
I did the jumper thing several times a few nights ago (switching it to pins 3+4 for 10 secs then putting it back to 1+2) and that didn?t work.
Where is this battery located and how hard is it to remove?
I'll try it out when I get home.
P.S...
Also the reason I'm meddeling w/ the bios is because my 3200 winabond DC mem is running at 320 instead of 400. TO get it running at 400 all I have to do is change the ratio to 1:1 right?
Thanks.
Thanks! I'll try that when I get home. Can I used the newest bios off of ASUS's site (and rename) or should I stick w/ the one on CD? Also do I hae to use a floppy and not the CD?
Thanks.
Ack, sorry it's the P4C800 Deluxe.
<<Reset the cmos>>
That?s the jumper by the SB light on the motherboard right? I've changed the jumper to the 2-3 pins and back to the 1-2 pins several times and it doesn't change anything.
<<remove the battery for 10 seconds>>
Where is the battery located...
Safe mode bios is just the bios w/ the default settings, right? Should still post, correct?
Maybe the CD is defective or something and it messes the bios up when the bios tries to reset itself from the CD. I'll make a new recovery floppy from the lastest drives on the ASUS site.
However this...
