Whats the diff between various DVD Media?

Same old story. Whoever own the industrial standard, whoever can enjoy the endless income of license fee. Toshiba, Pioneer and a few others made the "-" standard, Philips, one that enjoys the CD license for years, of course didn't like it and made their owns, which is the "+" standard.

Mine is Asus and I burn many CD's with Nero already. No, I'm not using the Nero Express came with. I use the lastest version downloaded from Nero web site.

No, it is one of the perfer customer coupons. Those perfer customer coupons vary a bit from person to person sometime. Mine is "SAVE $100 INSTANTLY" on notebook where my friend actually got the CDRW drive coupon. He gave that to me.

Anandtech actually has a review on this drive, but I think this one has some update. Some of the test results like seek time are better (far better actually) than the one tested by Anandtech. Yes, tray still not pressure sensitive. Yes, still only has 2MB buffer. No, not that loud IMO.

I bought the Verbatim today also. Yup it is Asus inside. I used the "buy a CDRW drive and get a $10 gift card coupon" so after all the rebates and a $10 gift card, the final cost is ~$5. Not bad. Been testing it and so far I sucessfully made 20 on-the-fly VCD copy at 48x (most likely limited by...

Throughbred 1700+ from Newegg overclock, wow!

Unless your mb has a 1/6 pci divider, you will always run in potential problems when you run fsb beyond 166.

Throughbred 1700+ from Newegg overclock, wow!

Nope, tried as high as 2.0v and as stated eailer, at 12x166@2g, anything above 1.7v will actually make the system crash sooner, won't even make into windows. With 1.65v at least it will boot to windows but crash in benchmaek. Take a closer look 'S' = '5'

Throughbred 1700+ from Newegg overclock, wow!

I had the same though until I did the test. Mid 1.9g I would say it is pretty much the physical limit unless you are lucky with a better one. Last time when it was cool (room temp ~10c), I turned all the fans (yes, I have V7+ also, plus 4x75CFM 80mm case fans, 2x PS fans) into highest speed...

My system will pass Sisoft at ~2g, but will not go through 3dmark or UT2003 unless I clock it down to ~1.9g.

Upgrade now or wait? (Athlon 1.4 to XP?)

You can solder a resistor (22k) to get ~ .2v boost. I did that to my K7S5a but never need to use it because hardly this K7S5a can push my AGOIA 1600+ or the TBred 1700+ into its limit.
