Have to choose between these processors - need help!

Get the quadcore, it can be OC'd easy with stock voltages and even a POS intel stock heatsink/fan that comes with it at retail. Quads crush dualcores in all encoding and video tasks, you will be much happier in the long term with more cores. Sure a 2.8ghz core 2 dual core will outperform a...

Upgrade CPU/MB or GPU for Gaming

Another thought, although this is probably far fetched, would be to get the 8800gt with your current rig, and hold out for a nahalem release in which should supposedly be released late Q4 this year if earlier reports on its release date are still valid. I can't wait for nahalem, but I...

20+4 pin PSU and 24 pin motherboard, will this work?

I'm currenlty running a pentiumD 820 (on a 24 pin, 775 lga motherboard) with a 600 watt 20 pin Ultra brand power supply, and it runs without a problem. From my understanding 20 pin power supplies are fine on 24 pin motherboards, the only concern is y how much wattage your psu has. Just make...

    Cpu stuck at 2.656 mhz

I wouldn't expect ddr533 to be able to reach 450mhz or so on a regular basis, no matter what brand, but I do agree that it is possible, with caution. I'm running ddr800 at 465mhz no problem, it happens to be high end corsair xms2 with huge heatsinks, I could probably reach 500mhz, but am ok at...

    Average c2duo overclock?

Ya I agree with around 3ghz overclock on a E4300, I'm running an undervolted E6300 at 2.45ghz very comforatably, on non hot summer days it idles around 43c with a mini typhoon cpu cooler. In the winter, 3ghz would be very possible.

    128 or 256

I have a 7950gt and it performs very well, its roughly x2 of my previous 6800gt, it will crush you're 6600 and put a smile on your face. At the same time the 8600gts is roughly the same price and performs slightly less in dx9 games now, yet will perform better in dx9 games that are more...

which 22" lcd: Acer AL2216WBD or Dell E228WFP

My apologies if not conveyed correctly, I work in front of an "Acer" 19 inch wide at work.

which 22" lcd: Acer AL2216WBD or Dell E228WFP

If I'm not mistaken aren't dell monitors still made by Sony? Sony makes a good screen if so. I do work in front of a 19 inch widescreen lcd at 1400 by 900 at work all day, and it looks very nice, Acer is good for the money, but if the money is the same and Dell monitors are made by Sony, its a...

    x1900GT vs 7800GS

Agreed, the 1900GT is by far better than the 7800GS, I see the 7800GS as a 6800gt/6800ultra that has the efficiency of the geforece 7 series (all three have 16 pipes and the same amount of shaders.

Radeon 1950 pro or 7600 GT

Of course the PRO is the correct choice, so I'm certainly assuming that your are on an agpx8 slot with your mobo, in that case of course x1950pro. A slightly cpu bound x1950PRO system is more fun than an equally/slightly gpu bound 7600gt system for negligible price difference.

    Will a Prescott @2.8 bottleneck a 7800GS AGP?

Conky said it right two posts back... A 2.8 prescott may not be able to take 100% advantage of a new higher end agp card, but how does atleast 30% more gaming performance sound to a gamer? 30% will make you smile. DO IT!!!

    Will a Prescott @2.8 bottleneck a 7800GS AGP?

Am I mistaken, or is the 7800gs the top notch nvdia AGP graphics card available for the American consumers (I say that because there are more geforce 7 series cards available for Europeans in the agp flavor, yet it seems if you want to import them, they are not worth their price, no agp card...

Calling all E6300 and E6400 owners

Hey Core 2 Duo Owners 1. e6200 running on a 965 ds3 2. stock 1.86 ghz running at 24c idle, around 40-ish on load (pc wizard) 3. 2.5 months ownership 4. I've had no issues 5. I use a mini typhoon cpu cooler with artic 5 thermal paste, I also run this in a roomy antec 900 series case...

    CPU Temperature: Whats too hot?

Well I'm assuming that you are using the default intel heat sinc and fan, otherwise you probably would have mentioned an after-market cpu cooler in your post. I'm using an intel core 2 duo E6300 with a mini typhoon cpu cooler with artic 5 cpu thermal paste on a p965 ds3 gigabyte motherboard and...

What if you had to choose today...

I too plan on building a new rig in the next month to two, yet I may be more on the budget than you are. I noticed you didn't mention 965 mobo's as an option, they do overclock extremely well and are matured and stable, but you won't get quite the general system performance of the 975 and 680i...
