you were right mechbgone there was a springy metal thing on the back plate touching the keyboard controller and causing the short, the pc fires up now, cheers! but there is no display, wats gone wrong now, is it the memory? but the pc doesn't beep or anything just no display on the monitor

yep the cpu fan is plugged in, the mobo doesn't even kickstart when I short the soft on pins with a screwdriver, either the mobo is screwed or its the psu, may have to RMA both of them, unless ive missed something but ive double checked everything, waited ages to buy a new system, typical pc...

Yeh it could be the power supply but its brand new I can't see why it would just go, its a antec truepower 380w. The heatsink on the cpu is fine, clamped down like a rock. The pc kicks in sometimes for no reason, kinda rules out the psu but it could be that, i think the psu is going into...
