I'm looking to buy a GPS unit for my car for the first time, probably around Black Friday. There are some nice-looking budget units in the $100-120 range (I've mostly been looking at the nuvi 225 and the TomTom XL 340). That's about all I want to spend right now, and I don't need anything fancy...

I had that happen once. I just unplugged the media reader block (wired to one of the USB headers on the motherboard), installed Windows, and then plugged it back in.

Just got back from Sams in San Antonio TX... found some discounted repair/return models for a nominal discount ($1000 marked down to ~$800). I asked about display models and was told that they sell them off frequently, but he said they only mark them down 5% (which seems odd). Anyway, no luck in...

My brother wants to play Halo 2 on his CRT instead of on a TV, but he's afraid that there might be some noticeable lag since the video is going through a capture card. Are some capture cards better than others in this area (cards with onboard hardware encoders, for example)?

Update - for anyone interested, I found something that looks promising: DriveImage XML. It's pretty lightweight, and doesn't have features (AFAICT) like incremental and differential imaging, but it looks like it will work for my use.

I've got Acronis TrueImage on my main machine for full drive imaging, and it works great. I'd like to also get a backup system going for the rest of the machines in the house, but can't afford dropping $(30 * 4) for a bunch of licenses at the moment. Are there any freeware apps or open-source...

I checked out the demo recently and definetly am thinking about buying it. The gameplay reminds me of the Rome: Total War campaign, which I enjoyed highly... except it's in space!

I *think* "RAW" is just what Windows reports the file system to be if it can't figure out what it is. :P FAT works with all flavors of Windows back to Win95.
