GTX 780 Ti on 800W PSU - no 8-pin connectors

Thanks guys, I remember reading that there was a risk of damaging components with those 8-pin adapters, but the two PCI-Express 6-pin connections run on separate 12V rails rated at 18A each, so they should be able to push 216W each without trouble.

GTX 780 Ti on 800W PSU - no 8-pin connectors

GTX 780 Ti on 800W PSU - no 8-pin connectors

The ASUS GeForce GTX 780 Ti I've got requires two 8-pin PCI-e connectors but my 800W "90%" efficiency power supply (HP Z620 Workstation) only has two 6-pin PCI-e connectors. The card came with an adapter for two 6-pin to one 8-pin. Would it be enough for me to draw power from one of the SATA...

Step Up to GTX 580 for $395 or grab another GTX 460 for $259?

Yep, have clarified this in the OP now. :) Thanks, those prices are pretty good. Should have been clearer about my location from the start though. Thanks for the head's up SquirtMonster. That card shows up as EUR 144.90 when I go to the link you provided though and I may have been...

Step Up to GTX 580 for $395 or grab another GTX 460 for $259?

Cheapest I could find was SEK 1409 or about USD 222. That's got only a one year warranty from Sparkle though and from what I've read, they're pretty noisy. The USD 259 price is for another EVGA GTX 460 SC EE 1GB. Prices in Germany are a bit less, I found a card from Palit for about $212 but...

Step Up to GTX 580 for $395 or grab another GTX 460 for $259?

EVGA Europe finally has the GTX 580s in stock for Step Up and sent me a price quote. Prices for the GTX 460 have dropped significantly since November (yeah, been waiting more than three months for this) which has me thinking about whether it's still worth it to Step Up. To step up to the GTX...

    Updated card in older system

Wouldn't he need to run a hack to continue using his 8800 GTS in SLI on that board?

LCD Upgrade: Old S-PVA vs. New TN?

+1 on this one. The U2211H (1920*1080 21.5" IPS)should be pretty close to the $220 price range. I've got the LP2465 and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Haven't noticed any problems when I'm playing shooters. I probably wouldn't spend that much money on an LCD that only has three months warranty...

Zotac GTX 460s in SLI - which case?

Not really looking for a case recommendation, just curious about what cases people are using with this particular card in SLI.

Zotac GTX 460s in SLI - which case?

I'm curious if anyone here is running a pair of Zotac GTX 460s in SLI and what case/chassis you guys are using? Or have any of you seen reviews where they list the case/chassis used and temperatures? The Hexus review I saw had the cards on a workbench.

So what would be your idea of an advanced monitor today?

There probably won't be any screens with a 16:10 aspect ratio pretty soon so we'll have to settle for a few less vertical pixels unless we go for a higher res.

GTX 460 SLI, GTX 480, HD5870 or wait and keep 8800 GTS 640MB?

Thanks for the responses and to those who voted. I think I'm going to wait and see what NVIDIA and AMD are gonna come up with in the next few months... have to admit that GTX 460s are really tempting though :P I'm guessing any mid-range card should be a vast improvement over my lowly 8800 GTS...
