The HD4850 manual says it needs minimum 450w for single card and 550w for crossfire setup.
I don't know exactly what the HD4870 requires, but I'd say at least 50w-100w more.
I just got a HD4850 card, it was an amazing upgrade from my 7600GT...
A HD4870 will also require a stronger PSU, so you might want to keep that in mind, because it can cost you more than the PSU you were planning to get.
For what you described you need your PC for, it seems like the HD4850...
Do I need to do anything special to make it send signal through the HDMI out instead of the DVI? and how do I make it output the sound as well so I can then output the sound from my monitor?

I just did the add/remove programs, and didn't use the driver cleaner. I installed the new card and it seems to work fine. Just one issue, futuremark 05 doesn't work.. it gets stuck on splash screen... weird. Now I can't compare my upgrade...
I'm not a big expert and been off the loop for a little while now, but from what I do remember you can't use 2 different brands of the same card for SLI because it will be unstable or something like that, could be sync. problems...
So I don't remember the exact reason, but I remember its not...

I couldn't find a good review comparing the two :confused: Anyway, where I'm planning to buy the HD4850 costs about $15 (before tax) more, I'm not sure if its worth it, or at all which of the two will make a better selection.
