Third party defragmenter wearing out drive?

I'll use it to analyze, I'm scared to use it.. I tried it on my desktop a while ago, completely messed it up. It booted quickly, but everything else ran really slow. I'll check it out to analyze though. Thanks for reminding me about that.

Third party defragmenter wearing out drive?

Yeah, but I don't want it to take up resources, or be defragging while I'm playing a game or something.

Third party defragmenter wearing out drive?

Well I just put it on if I'm leaving my comp for a bit, just a habit. Diskeeper always gives a certain percentage improvement after defragmentation, though its accuracy doesn't seem to be close. Thanks guys.

Third party defragmenter wearing out drive?

I've run PCMark, it gets a higher score than my 7200rpm desktop. I usually leave my laptop on anywho. But my question was if defragmenting can lead to degradationg of HD performance.

    IBM T/R Series Video Cards

My friend has the Radeon 9000 on his T40, and i have the 9600 on my T42. I can run Battlefield Vietnam pretty well on pretty high graphics, though it slows down sometimes. He can't run it at all, even with all the graphics down, it slows down too much.

A "workstation" notebook for CS student

I have an IBM T42 now, I love it, I'm also headed to college next year, though I'm not doing CS anymore, it would def be able to handle dev environments (I have .NET 2003 installed, works perfectly) It also runs alot of games really well. I'm not sure if the new Centrino systems have Linux...

Third party defragmenter wearing out drive?

Is it possible for it to happen? I'm using Diskeeper, and for some reason my drive takes a long time to bootup. Granted, it's a laptop, and does have alot of programs booting up with it..that could be the reason..but it's not my question. Would regular defragmenting degrade driver performance...

    athlon 64 or athlon xp

Alright, thanks guys. And I take it there's no issues in terms of backwards compatability with 32bit and maybe the legacy 16bit apps? And do I need XP Pro over Home to get the full advantage?

    athlon 64 or athlon xp

Hey everyone, Is there any advantage to having 64 bit, aside from the obvious. Is there wide support for it and is there a large noticeable performance gain? I'm on about a $1500 budget, so I can fit one in, if its worth it. Or should I just stick with the Barton Athlon XP? Thanks Nabeel

    need some help

Hey everyone, A teacher wanted me to help him build his computer. Now, I haven't build one in two years, which was when I build my Athlon 1700+ machine. I've been looking around a bit, and I have some sort of an idea of what to get. I'm most likely going to order everything from NewEgg. It's...
