Well, I got the second monitor and it's pretty much identical to the first. Definitely seems to be a manufacturing issue. This one will have to go back too; I guess I need to cross NEC off my list. Here's a picture of the second one, showing the same curved line on the left side:

Thanks for the responses. I decided to order another one rather than exchange since this is the only monitor I currently have access to. If the new one has the same problem then I'll just have to return both and look for a different model. I actually went through pretty much the same thing years...
