I see you have an Nvidia 6800 Ultra. I was pulling my hair out for like 3 weeks and even exchanged the motherboard. It turned out to be a combination of the 6800GT and "DEP on" with my A64. I see you have DEP off however have you tried much earlier or beta 71.x Nvidia drivers? You may want to...
The thing to watch to is prices might be real low at one retailer like ZipZoomFly but you end up paying for it in shipping charges. Last I checked back in Decemeber ZipZoomFly had really high shipping costs compared to New Egg and Mwave
I heard the difference was just a few degrees. As for the fans who do you recommend? Everyone seems to recommend Antec but both of my Antec fans are unusually loud compared to my cheap 80mm fans in my Intel P4P800 2.8ghz Northwood CPU stock HSF system . (its temp 30c in use but not heavy...
Last I checked Blackice does not have an update yet that allows it to work with the combination of AMD A64, XP SP2 and DEP (Data Execution Protection) turned on. You can always turn DEP off anyway since Blackice should pickup the buffer overflows hacks anyway.
LOL, if I had known I had to keep the case open or spend over $200 on water cooling I think I would have never made the switch from Intel to AMD. None of my Intel rigs have this issue or did I just believe the Antec hype and there are better low cost fans and cases that would handle this issue...
I tried Arctic Silver 5 and now Shin Etsu on stock HSF but my temps are nearing 60c during game play. The two 120mm Antec fans during game play are so freaking loud I cannot hear my audio. (Antec SLK-3700-BQE case).
Any fan recommendations to keep this case quiet and/or system cooler...
Exactly my sentiments. I have always built all my systems for home and business (all intel CPU, intel chipsets, ATI GPU's). I rarely ran into an issue with fiddling and if I did it was quickly resolved. I was also always saving money in by building rather than buying a Dell. However in my...
I tried Arctic Silver 5 and it was actually higher. Now I am on Shin Etsu and I am hoping given a few more days temps will drop. I spent alot of time with %90 alcohol to be sure all previous grease was off.
My next step was to get rid of the stock HSF and do something like you have tried...
Just comparing mine to yours it sounds like 90nm is a -10c difference. Anyone here with the a 130nm Athlon 64 so I can know for sure if these temps are correct?
Yes, I am using the retail cooler. This was my first dive into AMD and my loudest system I have owned because of the temperatures. Never had these issues with P4's although I have yet to try a Prescott.
