    1gb = 1024mb?

    Sorry Wrong Answer. The reason why a 160GB disk on Windows appears to be only 150GB is because all drive manufactories uses Decimal system, and not the binary system that computer are used so a drive that is 160GB 160GB Decimal = 160,000,000,000 160GB Binary = 171,798,691,840 Or 160GB...

    What would be faster?

    Try this; the question you should be asking for the performance is which GB modules support T1 timing, this is where you will notice the difference. On an Athlon 64 going from 2 to 1 channel could be like loosing a speed grade in certain application, however going form T1 to T2 timing levels...

    1GB PC3200 Modules that support T1 Timings

    I am building a system right now, and i am looking for 1GB PC3200 Modules that support T1 Timings. Anyone know for sure modules support this aggressive timings. That would be (2x1GB) or (2x1024MB) or (128Meg x 64) Now this is a big IF, but IF there was a MB and Memory that supports 4x512 but...

    Athlon 64 and Passive Cooling

    I am looking to pick up a new heatsink for my Athlon 64 3200+ and was wondering if there was a heatsink, (non-phase change or water cooled) that would support the chip passively. I have been seeing some people post temperatures of <40c under load with the standard fan, and I was wondering if it...

    OK the more and more I read into RAID-5 Systems, the more and more I am confused. First is S-ATA drives worth the extra $$$ for a home server, or should I stick with P-ATA drives for now? Second Depending on what the first questions. Are there any decent RAID-5 Cards for Cheap? I notice the...

    Help Choosing a Processor

    Part of the reason why I am looking for a low power consumption system is that I live in California which now has outrageous power rates; the second reason is I am looking for a cool running system because of where I am going to place the unit. I have a closet that is 25x28x100inces or about 40...

    Help Choosing a Processor

    Its not the overall preforemance that i am intrested in, i just need a CPU that is capable of hadeling the pariry for the drives, and still have enough to run a FTP/HTTP server. 2800+ is overkill for what i need. my home systems i not even that fast. The big trick is that i am trying to keep...

    HD failure rates???

    The dead media it probably because the heads start to touch the surface of the media instead of floating above it, and what caused this to happen? Changing the speed on the platter. The heads work on the same principal as hydroplanes, when the disk speeds up there is a small gap of air rushing...

    To RAID or not to RAID and other questions.

    I would agree with you for Raid 0 and JBOD, but Raid 1 and Greater is still valid from a data relibity stand point. i guess the Irony is that most manufactures try selling you on Raid 0 and JBOD which give you little gain.

    To RAID or not to RAID and other questions.

    The problem with JBOD is this if one disk fails, depending on where the data is and the OS, you?re screwed, and you may loose the information on both drives. You have to remember from this point of view If you have some disks and each is 100,000MTBF, then here is how the reliably for the data...
