    Weird Samba slowness problem

The users I'm talking about are UNIX users. Nobody is using the computer directly, it's just a headless samba server for the windows clients. I have setup the windows computers with the same user names and passwords so that they can access the samba server. Everything has worked fine for about...

    Weird Samba slowness problem

Hello, I'm having some problems with a samba server. Here is what I have: a samba server (3.2.5) running on debian lenny with windows vista clients. The problem is that, while the server speed is quite fast (in MB/s), it sometimes has unusual latencies before the data transfers can start...

Hello to all, I really need your help! I have searched all over the Internet for answers and I can't find anything. Upgrading a broken PC

My parent's PC recently broke: I have discussed with them the best way to spend to fix this, and we have decided that we should simply upgrade the computer. Here is what they have now: AMD Athlon64 2800+ socket 754 2GB DDR400 OCZ RAM (2x 1GB) DFI Lanparty-UT NF3-250 (this is what is...

Me too, cards never died. However I had to replace the fan on one of my 9800pro.

    Troubleshooting a dead PC

Almost 2½ years old DFI LanPartyUT NF3-250. It's built with good capacitors and one of the first things I did was to inspect each of them... they seem ok.

    Troubleshooting a dead PC

I tried to unplug the power/reset switches, it didn't change anything. I did check the voltages of the PSU, it was like 4.9/12.5V, but that shouldn't matter since I'm already trying with another PSU to be sure.

    Troubleshooting a dead PC

My parent's PC stopped to work a couple days ago. It wouldn't start. That is, the PC powers itself (the fans are spinning), but there is no BIOS screen at all. I would like to know if there is a possibillity that it's not a dead motherboard. Here is what I did to troubleshoot. -Unplug...

How much memory is needed in a NAS machine

I think you would need around 256MB. Or at least that's what worked well on my debian home server, but now I've upgraded to 1.25GB since I've added a lot of services since the beginning.

    HDD cache idea

In one of my computers, there is a 256MB cache for the hard drives, but it's on the controller card. I think that's more efficient than putting more cache on each hardrive. Also I think it is even more efficient to use the operating system's disk cache that sits in main memory.

    Clicking/Popping Power supply?

I think that clicking and poping noises form a PSU are actually quite normal and you shouldn't worry about it.

...it says the topic is "Discrete structures". WTH is that???? It sounds scary and boring.
