Here is my current rig:
DFI Lanpart NF4 Ultra-D
2X512MB OCZ VX GOLD
1X6600GT
1X 74GB Raptor
1 X NEC 3550A
2 X SX4000 RAID Card
4 X 160GB 7200RPM (RAID 5)
4 X 180GB 7200RPM (RAID 5)
I had an Athlong 64 3000+ installed in the system overclocked to 2160 (240X9). The system was totally...
OK, this does sound a bit counter intuitive. I like the Shuttle SD11G5.
http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Barebone/SD11G5.asp
(good starter for HTPC) and in the specs it says the only supported CPU type is the 479 pin Pentium M. Will my newly purchased Banias 1.5Ghz 1M L2 400SB Socket...
Get an Arctic Cool NV Silencer 6 rev. 2 to help keep those temps down. I am running a similar overclock (590/1190) and it dropped my temps by almost 20 degrees with virtual silence. Its well worth the investment to protect your card!
Great Post. I agree. I think AMD will have sub $300 dual cores as soon as they can manage it. If we could buy a sub $300 X2 it would definitly beat all the intel solutions in the price/performance department. (This is assuming the Intel Dual Core MBs stay at a similar price point as they are...
Any 12VDC source will work.
You could use the PSU in your pc by wiring the fan into your machine.
You could also get a 120V AC to 12V DC power adapter - these can be had at radio shack for $10 or less. If you can find some old power adapters for cordless phones or something like that you...
I would definitly spring for the all copper XP-90. It can remove a lot more heat from your CPU. You might be able to run your 92mm panaflo at a slightly lower RPM as well for lower fan noise with the copper version.
The other great thing about the XP-90C is the easily replaceable fan. Even...
The next cooler i will be buying is the Thermaltake Big Typhoon.

There's a recent review here

That review looks at 10 big coolers. I'm a huge fan of...
I run my winchester at 1.6250V 24/7.
Runs just fine - Peak CPU Temps are around 48 degrees C. (with Silent Boost K8)
Read the overclockign quide - find the max memory speed and max cpu speed seperately so you can understand where your instability is coming from!
I would do these things way before water cooling.. . .
Buy an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 6 Rev. 2. It'll cost about $40 but is a near silent cooling option for your 6600GT. It dramatically reduced the noise in my system but will still spin up when things get warm. (It will make more noise...
Even though M2 is coming out next summer 939 should be around for awhile thereafter. 939 has been out for quite sometime now and there are still some new S754 choices. Since we already know that X2 will be fully compatible with 939 you will be able to double the processing power on a 939...
Don't Bother - From my experiences most machines that run below 500mhz are pretty painfull in Windows XP. You dont need a machine like many build on the forum to be pleased with a WinXP experience, but I dont know about a PII 233 being very usable even if you can manage to install about 256mb...
The only reason I'll be buying the K8SD is the deal through AMD and the fact that ti will only be used as a file server and media encoder. I wont need to do anything that requires a good graphics card. I will likely use the onboard video.
