kluge....that is about what I meant. To give a little more detail, I was concerned that powering up with out load might cause the voltages to be exceptionally high, perhaps damaging filter caps.
Sounds like it is safe.
Thanks all

Is it safe to test an ATX power supply that is NOT under load? Will the voltages measured at the plugs be meaningful if it is not under load. Will the switching regulators perform correctly with NO load?

Anyone know where I can get a freeware program to change JPG and GIF's and BMP's to Icon files for Windows? I had one but lost it in a C drive crash.....don't remember where I got it.

I'll just be takin' that ol' f@rt award RossGr :)
I worked on the original Arpanet in the early 70's. :D
I take 4 different kinds of medicine that have side effects of dizziness, lightheadness, and mild confusion. But thank goodness I still have my driver's license!
Is there any advantage to using a 7200 rpm drive in an older computer that is ATA 66 ? I.E., can a ATA 66 IDE bus keep up with a 7200 rpm drive, or should I just stick with 5400 rpm
This was Larry Roberts original envision (Driving force behind the ARPANET). Mainframe computing networked to dumb terminals. What he did not forsee was Smart Terminals at a reasonable price.
I am not sure that we aren't heading in that direction anyway. This forum for instance is a...

Why not just use CMOS logic IC's. You can get 4, 8 gates on a chip for less than a buck, and save on the external resistors, components as well.

Yeap...that is the general idea.
Anyone know a URL for the IEEE spec for the 40pin HD data lines? Or for WD connections. Can't seem to find the info on WestDig .com
:P
What is the simplest way to pick up a logic 1,0 signal to indicate when a hard drive is being accessed? I have 3 drives .... can't tell except on the C drive.
