Building your own system is the only way to ensure cost effective quality. Are you sure you hooked your SATA drives up to the correct inputs? As there's 4, 2 X SATA and 2 X Promise SATA raid inputs.... I hooked mine up to the RAID inputs and they were detected straight by the promise...
