New G5 iMac or Dual 2Ghz PowerMac?

Thanks DOACleric. I took the plunge and bought the dual 2Ghz PowerMac last night (should be here in a few weeks). I ugpraded the video card for $55, but kept the RAM as 512MB. Hopefully today I'll go pick up a 512MB stick of Crucial at that PC Shop and cross my fingers that it'll work ;).

Should I get a PowerMAC G5 or iMAC?

I was in the same boat as you a few days ago, CitizenDoug (my question thread). I took the plunge last night and went with the dual 2Ghz PowerMac. Why: - If something happens to the monitor in the iMac, you're screwed - Upgradability in the PowerMac - Dual processors + faster FSB + etc. =...

New G5 iMac or Dual 2Ghz PowerMac?

Well I've decided. With the new upgrades announced today, I'll be getting the new Dual 2Ghz PowerMac. I'm going to upgrade the GeForce 6600 128MB LE to the 6600 256MB for $55, and put another 512MB RAM in there for $110. That's about $50 more expensive than what I could get at my local PC...

New G5 iMac or Dual 2Ghz PowerMac?

DOACleric: That makes sense. I just wanted to make sure that when the 19th rolls around with the expected updates, I'd still be able to purchase one of the old ones (in case the new ones are too expensive). thekillerjks: I've decided to go Mac - there's no swaying me :). And I'm not...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

I was really hoping that this thread would not degrade into a Windows / PC vs OSX / Mac flame war; thankfully, I got my questions answered before hell broke loose ;). In either event, I think I've decided to not get a Mac ? at least not yet. One of the reasons for my decision is money: I...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

I was taking another look at the Mac Mini and its comparative Mac benchmarks and while I would agree that it would be a great intro-Mac used for everyday tasks, I don't think it has the performance I'd need for multimedia applications. It's a shame too, because at its price, I could easily...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

Thanks for the link, Lucifer. It's interesting that the Radeon 9650 is an upgrade that actually downgrades the performance of your system. That doesn't sound like a worthwhile upgrade to me. Are Mac video cards, such as the ones listed in Apple's online order menu, different from "PC" video...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

Regarding stability, and I know this is going to differ depending on who I talk to, but just how stable is a Mac ? more specifically ? Tiger. I read AnandTech's two "Month with a Mac" articles and the Tiger review and the general feeling that I get is that Tiger / Mac is a little more stable...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

Thanks for the input, guys. It seems like the consensus is, "Go for a Mac if you truly want a Mac ? for the OS, the features, the experience, whatever", but stick with a PC if you want the performance and affordability. Would this be an accurate conclusion? And other than playing with it...

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

I've definitely got something to think about -- thanks for the opinions, guys. Genx87: I'm guessing from your avatar that you're American and those are American prices, right?

    PC User Going Mac: Advice?

I've been a PC gamer for as long as I've had a computer. However, over the last couple of years, I've done less and less PC gaming and more and more multimedia editing (graphics, audio, video, etc.). Now, the only gaming I do is a once a week Halo 2 on Xbox Live stint with my buddies. My PC...
